Comments: I started off near the front of the pack and pretty much stayed in the same position from about the 1 mile point on. From that point, I passed two people, and wasn't passed by anyone. My first mile at 6:41 was faster than I expected, and I knew that I would not be able to sustain that pace. Not surprising the pace fell off a bit, but I could see that breaking 22 was going to happen. So the only question then was whether I could break 21:45, which would translate to a sub 7 pace. I pushed it towards the end and crossed the finish line with the race clock reading 21:41. However, the official time had me at 21:44, so that's what I'll have to go with. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I'm satisfied with this race. Post race
Warm down: Milled about after the finish chatting with other runners, drinking the water and gatorade offered. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of speed training. Event comments: When I did my last 5K in February, I had a goal of breaking 22, and wasn't successful. Back then I was much more run focused and was doing speed work to boot. So the fact that I broke 22, had a PR, and ran a sub 7 pace (just barely) when I haven't been focusing on the run was a pleasant surprise. Last updated: 2007-06-16 12:00 AM

I had just decided the night before to do this race. The Big Flats Community Days fair was going on and they had a 5K race in conjunction with it.
Got up and ate breakfast with the family. Then made the 10 minute drive over to Big Flats for the race.
Basically just walking around the fairgrounds prior to race.
