Swim
Comments: Pretty good swim. Went out a little too fast (as usual!) but once I got to the turn I felt better and was able to cruise the rest of the way in. Ran into a huge pack of men from the previous wave toward the end of the swim and had to navigate through a lot of bodies. Had hope to go sub 13:00 but I'm still pleased. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: Long run uphill to the transition area. Took a Hammer Gel and swig of water before heading out. What would you do differently?: Learn how to mount w/ shoes already clipped. I will learn this before my next race! Bike
Comments: Had hoped to go 52:00 so I'm really pleased with this ride. I think I could have pushed a little harder b/c I felt I had a lot left when I got back to the park. In the last 2 miles I was able to pass two women in my age group that had passed me earlier in the ride. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder in the middle of the course. Transition 2
Comments: Lost in transition...couldn't find my rack. ugh! Of course, once I found it I wasn't really rushing b/c I knew my race was pretty much over. What would you do differently?: Put my pirate flag on my rack so I could find my spot! Run
Comments: Actually, I did better here than I had hoped given my knee situation. I was able to run the first 2 miles at an easy pace. The first mile really hurt but then my knee seemed to loosen up a little. I was trotting along happily with only moderate pain. Then at about 2.25 miles there was an quick downhill and that's where the wheels fell off. I got half way down the hill and my knee seized! I couldn't go another step. I grabbed hold of a tree and held on. I tried to walk...no luck. If I hadn't been in the middle of the woods I would have screamed MEDIC! But, alas, I was in the middle of the woods so I continued on. Eventually I was able to start walking. Several kind racers stopped to see that I was okay (Thanks Katie!). I could have turned around there and hobbled back but I had made it that far so I just hobbled on. After about 10 minutes of walking my knee eased enough to allow me to trot across the finish line. yay, I survived! What would you do differently?: Get a new knee. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a drink and found the MEDIC truck for an ice pack. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knee. Event comments: Knew the run was going to be a disaster but I wanted to do it anyway. I love this race venue. I like to think if I had not had knee problems, I could have finished near the top of my age group. Oh well, there's always next year... :) Last updated: 2007-01-05 12:00 AM

Up at 4:30. Ate a 2 mini-bagels w/peanut butter, drank some water and headed out to the race site. Race site was bustling when I arrived at 5:15. Got my race packet, chip and body marking then set up my transition area. Hung out with the fellow BTers until the first wave went at 6:30.
Not much. Did a few strokes in the water while waiting for my wave to start.
