Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, had oatmeal with rasins for breakfast.
Swim
  • 07m 52s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 37s / 100 meters
Comments:

Took a very long time to get in pool. Race started at 7:15, I started at 8:20.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I had spent some time in a 50 meter pool. All my training was in a 25 yard pool, so this pool intimidating, but it went very well.
Transition 1
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

I took too long in T1. I slipped and fell while running with bike to ride start, did not really hurt, but took a time to get back up and start again. My knee was bloody.
What would you do differently?:

I wish I had practised T1.
Bike
  • 28m
  • 10 miles
  • 21.43 mile/hr
Comments:

I was very strong on the bike. I was not passed by anyone (OK, 1 guy passed me at 8.5 miles, but I passed him right back and stayed in front).
What would you do differently?:

I planned on riding 8.5 miles hard, then 1.5 with an easy spin to keep my running legs. So I slowed at 8.5 miles, thats when I got passed, so I picked it back up and raced all out with that guy till the end (I stayed in front).
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

T2 was faster, slipped out of bike shoes and into running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

I should have left water bottle.
Run
  • 32m 49s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran a little slower than I wanted. I worked way too hard on the bike and did not save energy for run. I did have a VERY strong finish, I all out sprinted for about 200 meters at the end, passing 3 other racers, one right at the finish line, it was very close. That is the fastest I have ever run as an adult!!!!
What would you do differently?:

I should have kept to the plan on the bike and not let my ego get in the way. I was spent before the first mile of the run. I judge I should have suffered more on the run and done it faster.
Post race
Warm down:

no warm down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The only limiting factor was me. I made the choice to finish instead if suffering and finishing faster. This was my first race, so I now have times to beat!
