Sunny
Total Time = 2h 46m 56s
Overall Rank = 173/331
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 22/40
Pre-race routine:

Two months to go and damn I'm nervous...
Event warmup:

I didn't warm up much...I didn't realize how early they were telling us to head to the beach for the swim. Little did I know that we had to walk the swim distance to the start. This was actually a good warmup and helped me with my nerves.
Swim
  • 31m 41s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

For my first ocean swim I was very pleased. I started slow and towards the back as to not get caught up in the chaos. I am glad I went in the ocean the day prior to get used to my suit and the ocean. The day before the water was rough and I was a bit worried. I think this also had to do with me being the only one in the water. For the race, I felt very comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

For my next one I will attack the start. I was one of the top swimmers in my wave and I think the slow start cost me a couple minutes. I am still happy with the way I approached the swim though.
Transition 1
  • 04m 30s
Comments:

Not a bad T1. The only issue I had was some cramping out of the water. My right calf especially. I took a bit to kind of stretch out. I think I can drop a minute or a minimum of 30 seconds next time with little trouble.
What would you do differently?:

Not much but hopefully not have to stretch in transition. Hopefully my fun to the transition will be easier. I felt like I couldn't bend my knees...
Bike
  • 1h 13m 25s
  • 36 kms
  • 29.42 km/hr
Comments:

I really need to work on my biking in the off season. I got passed by everyone. Ugh. This was the event I was least comfortable with and it showed. I will do better next race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the actual bike rather than the stationary!!! Train more on the bike overall.
Transition 2
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

Can't say I'd do much different here...hopefully dismount better, but I was super tight!
What would you do differently?:

Dismount better.
Run
  • 55m 47s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 35s  min/km
Comments:

Quads were tight throughout. Never walked...fairly satisfied.
What would you do differently?:

Train more bricks...I did all of mine in the gym (stationary bike/treadmill)
Post race
Warm down:

Walk/stretch

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience.

Event comments:

This is a fantastic race for an extremely good cause. I highly recommend it to anyone in a relatively close area. The post race picnic was fantastic.

Way to go!  That was a solid performance all around.  I was considering the Make a Wish this year, but I got a worried about what would have been my first ocean swim.  Congratulations on finishing your first race in the Atlantic! -Matt
