Total Time = 1h 27m 38s
Overall Rank = 338/700
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 41/57
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:30...loaded the truck and headed out to pick up Bryan. Stopped by McDonalds and got a dry english muffin and headed on to the race site. Got there very early and had lots of time to set up transition and headed to the swim start.
Event warmup:

Swam about 200 - 250 meters of the course, had a GU and waited for the start
Swim
  • 12m 20s
  • 533 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not a good swim...not a bad swim.....took a while to get a rythm. Once I got that, the rest of the swim was decent once I got going
What would you do differently?:

Push harder in the middle of the swim
Transition 1
  • 04m 35s
Comments:

First time putting on shoes while on the bike. Decent Transition although the run from the swim was a good .25 mile run
Bike
  • 37m 46s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty good bike....pushed hard, but not all out. I wasn't as brave as last year on the descent and I only hit 40.5 mph. Cruised pretty fast on the second halp of the ride and especially fast of the last 3 miles
What would you do differently?:

Hit the first descent a little harder, be more aggressive on the second descent and push for 50 mph.
Transition 2
  • 01m 33s
Comments:

socks were soaked when I put on my running shoes. Pulled my running shoes on while standing, but the toungue got stuck inside and I had to take it off an dput it onn again. It never felt quite right and I ended up getting blisters on my left foot
What would you do differently?:

Not sure....another pair of socks would be good, but cost time. I am not ready to try sockless
Run
  • 31m 26s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

My battle with my run continues. Horrible run again today. I cannot even break 10 minute miles for a 5k. The more I run, the slower I am getting. I am doing Zone 1-2 runs, intervals, etc and just am not adding speed. Have to figure this one out soon.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have hit some short stretches with some more speed and then recovered.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some gatorade and beer and waited with Bryan, Ken, and Mike.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure...been putting in the training time, but the run is hurting my overall times

Event comments:

Too many people in the swim start making for a very physical swim. The pack did not thin out until the end. Also, the bridge back onto the island was narrow and had traffic that was moving slower than the riders with no way to pass. Overall, a very good race.
