So sad today.  One of the nurses at the hospital died over the weekend.  She was morbidly obese.  She was probably late 40s early 50s.  MAybe 5'6" and I'd be shocked if she was under 350#.  She probably put on 50-75# in the last year.  I don't think I ever even saw her walk or get up from behind the desk in the last 2 months.  I tried to get her to be more active but she just laughed at me.

So the challenge is to try to get one person to in your life to move more.  You might save their life!!  Get them excited and be an example.

So sad.....we can make a difference to others by motivating them to try something small to start with.

The irony is amazing. A nurse who couldn't see the reality of her situation?

unreal, that is a sad thing. Getting fit not only helps you personally it helps everyone around you. You'll be around longer for your family, you enspire your co-workers even the annonymous person on the street who sees you running or cycling and gets inspired to do more themselves.

It is obviously too late for your co-worker...I am worried about the kids these days that sit infront of x-box, playstation or the computer and feel it's alright to play virtual games rather than hockey, baseball, soccer etc. Even our schools here do not emphasize physical activity.

I'm a nurse and let me tell you, nurses can be some of the worst examples of healthy living out there. A lot of nurses smoke, and we eat horribly especially those of us who work the overnight shifts. Sad, but true.

Talking about being an inspiration...
I was riding my bike and across the street came a young guy, full cycle gear, looking great. Mind you I'm 47 and heavy. He gave me the sweetest nod and tip of his helmet. I floated all the way home. For him to be so nice to a newbie like me - I felt one of the pack.

So when I encounter a woman (esp. middle-aged and heavy) walking or jogging I go out of my way to acknowledge her and say something encouraging.

I know just reading posts from athletes who started where I am is so inspiring!
