Subject: CO2 Inflator

I need a second opinion for a simple question. I just got a CO2 inflator for my hybrid. Tires are 700x35. LBS said 16 gram, but I see in the package a product called big air available for MTB with 40 grams. Will 16 be enough? I see 25 offered as well.

As long as I'm asking, Performancebike.com has tubes listed as 70 x 35-38, my LBS sells exactly 700x35. Anybody see a problem with the 35-38?

Thanks!

I think the 45g carts are intended for multiple refills, but I'm not sure I'd trust one to hold any pressure after the seal was broken.

See the link for pressures for various sizes of tires with various sizes of CO2--it doesn't list 700X35, but I expect you'll get sufficient pressure for one refill out of a single 16g cartridge.

16 will be fine. On the other hand, I don't think you'll blow yourself out on 25, but you may not want that amount of pressure unless you're riding hardpacked roads. May want to check that with a test-inflate.

On the tubes portion of your Q, 700x35-38 will work like a charm. No worries there, either.

16 will get you home, and that's what you want. Don't go hitting the huge jumps after you've already blown your spare tube, get home.

I use big air on my MTN bike tires.  Each can fills multiple tires to almost 40psi...the cans are high volume not pressure.  If Im on the road, I still have to pump the tube up another 15-20psi for a faster ride, not fun with a minipump....

The tubes expand when filled, thats why they have a size range.  Make sure the tube is in the range of your tire and your good to go.  I picked up a spare tube from my LBS that was exactly sized for my tires.  For the same price I picked up 4 more from Nashbar that also fit my tire.
