Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 6/12
Pre-race routine:

Check out the transition area get some coffee visit the restroom 10 times.
Event warmup:

10 minute run followed by 7 minute swim with a few race accelerations in both.
Swim
  • 29m 58s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m / 100 meters
Comments:

Water was pretty shallow but comfortable. I think Im finding drafting is not as useful for speed as it is for letting someone else sight.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

I got this whole getting into the shoes while on the bike down to a science finally.
What would you do differently?:

Once again I tried to go back to wearing a shirt and once again it probably cost me 20 seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 16m
  • 25 kms
  • 19.74 km/hr
Comments:

Little bit of wind. 3 times over the causeway = up it 6 times. I pretty much stayed seated with the exception of the last climb.
What would you do differently?:

Bike I still have a pretty big limiter I was happy with the average considering the course but could have certainly been better. Goals for the off season. Im hoping adding weight lifting next year is going to add a little more force for climbs in addition to extra riding.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Everything went smooth race was a little unorganized had a confusing bike finish. And, I dont know what to do about this but I have yet to do a ride of 20+ miles where I dont have to pee when I get off the bike. I had to stop post transition and pee. That really sucks in the middle of a race.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I check the actual entrance to the bike finish not just look at it from a distance.
Run
  • 48m 27s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a really nice run could have gone a bit faster but wanted to be sure I had enough for the end. Took two waters at each stop one to dump on head the other to take two sips then dump on head kept nice and cool.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around hunt for water since the only thing I could seem to find was OJ.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Could have pushed a little harder. I just wanted to finish without stopping and I did. My biggest limiter to work on for the off-season is definitely going to be my bike. Also I need to work on understanding distances for running so that I dont end up at the finish with the ability to run more miles. I could have easily done a few more miles which means I definitely could have pushed harder. This however was my first time at this distance so it was a learning experience.

Event comments:

Fun race somewhat poorly organized as far as the course went I didnt understand why we had to come back into the parking lot for that little loop each time why not just extended the course on the main road. My goal was top 50% of my age group and I made it dead center so I'll take it. Am having a little bit of , I wont be racing again until next year depression. But Im looking forward to taking the next week or two off has been a busy first year.

Great race. I agree with your comments about the organization and the bike course. Sorry I didn't meet you but couldn't figure out how to do that.

Thanks Lara!

Bob I kept looking for anyone that resembled your picture and at one point I saw someone I recognized but didnt know so I thought it was you and so I yell 'Hey, Bob' and I get this 'Im not Bob' look. Turned out he was the guy from your age group that I had seen at the Publix races. So I had to make a fool of myself. Looks like you had a great race though. What races are you planning next year? Only thing I've signed up for so far is the Florida Escape to Alcatraz in Clermont in February. We'll have to actually plan a meeting.
