Subject: Total Sprint ProgramHi All,
This is a great site, and has provided this swimmer with the incentive to try a tri :- )
I have my first Sprint Tri penciled in (Nov 2004 ) which gives me 44 weeks before the race. I have everything I need, including a wet suit and an old mountain bike for training. After 6 months of training, I'll splurge on a road bike, probably an Avanti Sprint (http://www.avantibikes.com/bikes_detail.asp?id=141&t=7 ), as they come in my size (XXL ), and are good value for money.
As a big guy (6' 5" and 253 lb ), I thought I would use a modified version of Michael Pates Total Sprint Program. Instead of swimming 3 times a week, I'll swim once, as the swim is no problem. That leaves 3 bikes and 3 walks/runs per week to work the weight off.
I also thought I would double the length of the program, from 22 weeks to 44 weeks, to ensure that my body has the necessary time to adapt. My aim to comftably finish, somewhere in the middle of the pack. should this training program enable me to accomplish that goal?
Cheers,
richard.
