Total Time = 1h 36m 38s
Overall Rank = 258/6463
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 8/121
Pre-race routine:

Stumbled out of bed at 4AM and made it to Balboa Park with my brother and his wife in time for the bus ride to Point Loma.
Event warmup:

Basic stretches and two port-a-potty poop breaks.
Run
  • 1h 36m 38s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Great race. Nearly hit my ultimate goal of 1:35. Very happy with outcome since my run training has been limited because of ITBS and an emphasis on cycling. Very pleased that my IT did not flare up and that I was able to mentally push through the tough miles. At miles 8-9 I was ready to give in and admit defeat but continued to "put one foot in front of the other" and eventually made it through the tough stretch. After the race my brother, his wife and I signed up for the Big Sur Half Marathon in November and have promised to try and greatly improve our times. It is neat to run with them.
What would you do differently?:

umm. Slow down and try an run an negative split or an even split. My first 5 miles avg was sub 7:00 (granted it was downhill) then it continued to climb to as high as an 8min/mile along the 6th street climb.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and waited around for my bro and sis to finish.

Event comments:

Lots of volunteers and great aid stations - though I heard the gatorade was watered down. I was disappointed in the lack of excitement from the bystanders. I know its boring/hard to cheer for long but this was the least energetic race I have been too.

Great run! I can't even fathom running that fast, it's cool to see. So your not used to the lack of energy from the spectators.....welcome to So CA! Keep up the good work.

That is an amazing time considering you training has not been what you had hopped for. Very cool! I am glad that your ITB’s did not cause any problems. That is a good sign. I hope it stays that way.

smokin' fast on your half mary - great job!!  Bummer about your IT band, but with the additional cycling, it may be a certain blessing in disguise.

I agree with the above, your smoking hot fast.  Glad you did as well as you did considering your recent training snaffoos.  Maybe I should think about the Big Sur....... after all, someone needs to bring up the rear behind you speedys!
