Pre-race routine:

Picked up Dad at his house. Drank cup of coffee ate half a banana. Ate bag of Nutella covered preztels.
Drove to Dickinson 90 miles, set up transition area, met a few people.
Event warmup:

Road bike from transition to smooth black top had to practice turning on the new chip seal coating. Ran about a mile. Swam about 250 yards.

Comments:

Race Director said find guys your own pace. I did this was a big mistake because we were running into each other all the time
There were 4 of us in the lane. This slowed us all down.
What would you do differently?:

Get better at swimming so I am in a lane with people going faster that know how to make the turns

Transition Area was changed because of the chip sealing of the streets. We had to run a lot farther to the zone which didn't bother me a bit. They could have added another 50 yards if they wanted.
What would you do differently?:

Start learning how to ride out of transition zone with shoes already clipped on to pedals

The hills seemed to slow me down quite a bit. Took it easy crossing HWY 22 near the Super-Walmart.Two patrolmen directing traffic but still busy. JB was hit by an older lady pulling into the Runnings Hardware store, He flew across the hood of her car but he kept on going. Patrolman escorted him the rest of the way. The road even had a bike lane where he was hit.HR was at 170 most of the ride
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water on the ride during a hot day like it was.

Rode past the cones closer to the bike rack because no rider were near.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure I rack my bike before I start putting on my shoes so it doesn't smash on the ground.

Felt pretty good off the bike running up the hill. Started to overheat when comming back with the wind. HR was at 169-170 most of the way. small blister formed on right heal.
What would you do differently?:

try & prepare for the heat better.

Warm down:

walked around took a shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

9 years of being a super slug. Need to get swim coach & buy either TI DVD or other swim instruction DVD. Need to learn to ride in aero position. Head sticks up way to high. Start running speed work as soon as PF is healed.

Event comments:

Race was small but fun. I got a small trophy for 3rd place. Dad seemed to enjoy himself. No data for the transitions. Pickle event was timer. Winner came in at 58:57
