Pre-race routine:

Got almost no sleep. It was so hot in my tent that just laying down made me sweat. I was rudely awaken at 2:55 by sprinklers causing many of us to frantically search for our rain flys in the mean time everything got soaked. I ate two clif bars and some water for breakfast.

Comments:

100-mile time: 5:18:46

My rear derailleur wouldn't shift into my 21 tooth cog (I'm on an 8 speed) so my easiest gear was 39-19. That sucked for the hills in which i got dropped several times. Drafting is amazing. I bonked at mile 66 then all the good people to draft off of left me in their dust causing me to fend for myself the rest of the way. After getting food at mile 70, I had more energy, but was slowed down by no drafting and headwinds. I took my sweet precious time at the last 4 or 5 aid stations and actually dozed off to be awaken by a medical lady. All in all, it was a good first century, especially considering my previous longest distance was 56 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried not to die. Went well. I ate a bagel then took down my camp site. This was followed by 3 6" subs at subway. (Gotta love the daily special)

Event comments:

The aid stations only had bananas, oranges and pickles (except the unofficial free beer stop). It would have been nice to have a wider selection. Somebody had leaned up their bike against an unmarked cop car and when the disgruntled cop noticed he picked it up and threw it several feet onto another bike. That was pretty lame. Overall a good experience.

nice race. much better time than mine! I thought I was near the front when the race started, but it was still a bunch of amateurs that didn't want to draft! I was so hoping to get in on a large pack this year. Oh well. Damn nice time overall. hope to see you there next year!

Congratulations!  This is a good "Everyman" type Ride Report too, which is inspiring.

Congrats on your first century!  What's up with the cop?  Must have woke up on the wrong side...
