I bought an underwater mp3 player and love it. Not the easy to keep on and flip turns are out my doing 3 to 4,000 yard out works go by much faster.

BTW if you want to try it replace the arm holder with a chest strap and have the MP2 player in the middle of your back.

I'm going to have to look into buying one, I see them, but I haven't heard anything about them.  I can't do flip turns so at least I don't have to worry about it falling off.

Sorry to hear about your flu. I just got over it myself, but still was able to make and finish my first HIM last weekend. Not fast, as my energy was still way off and I got a major calf cramp in my left calf, at the 3 mile mark, but I can say from couch to HIM finisher in one year!

Hey vegas99 -- hope you can rev up again for next week, and race confidently in your first race (distance?) in a few weeks!

And msilversteele, how'd the HIM go?  Is there a RR up yet?  I hope you had a performance to be proud of and look forward to reading about it.

Cheers,  -Sunny

I'll get a race report up this weekend. but in general...

The swim went as planned. Even though it is my best event, we planned on just taking it easy and saving energy. The goal was a finish as this being my first HIM it would be a PR no matter what. The water was kind of rough, ocean swim, with rolling waves and chop.

The bike was pretty good too. I made a couple mistakes that cost me some major time. One hint... always carry TP with you! LOL. after that stop one of the workers racked my bike and hit the front brake on the rack so for the next 16 miles my speed was way down until I finally stopped and found the problem.

The run, great for about 5 miles then I got a major calf cramp (I had problems with it going into the event so it was not a total suprise) and went into a lets just get a finish.

In general a huge sence of accomplishment, I finsihed in 7 hours 11 minutes, while my realistic goal was to finish under 6 hours, I am still proud of the accomplishment.

One year from couch to HIM finisher!

GREAT JOB steele.. lol about the tp... i have read that and wonder about carrying some myself.. nature calls, nature calls.... ANYWAY... 7hr11mn is great. I am looking to finish under 8, we shall see. First race in two weeks, long course, oly course. not sure what they call it but goes something like this:

1500 swim
23 bike
6 run.

Off today to fly to Reno to watch the Nevada/UNLV football game. Would not miss it for the world. I will admit, no wife, no kids and all my buddies that I played ball with equates to lots and lots of partying. Beer, beer and more beer.

Keep an eye on the ticker on sportscenter.. NEVADA over unlv....

talk to ya later my fellow triers....

OK, where is everyone? Training or thinking about it? Anyway, went to the Nevada/UNLV game, yep, we whooped up on some rebel..

Placed a $10, 10 team parlay card that day, ended up winning $8,000!!! How cool is that... Not bad for betting $20 a weekend during football season.

Training is going good. Today did 1500m in 27 minutes, 2000m in 38 minutes. First race coming up this Sunday. Killer hill towards the end, for like 3 1/2 miles straight uphill. cant wait to do a race on some flat land. Napa in 08' will be the first.

Hope everyone is doing great.

2 DAYS till the pumpkinman.. first race is here already... Got a little burned out with the training. maybe I started to early but sure have not had the desire to get out there and train like I was during the summer.

Hopefully after this event and the HIM in November, I will see and feel what it takes to compete. Just relaxing this week and hoping for a good result. I will post my times next week when it is all said and done.

First goal is to finish, but more important to me,,,, not come in last place in my division and overall...

Happy Friday everyone..

ALL RIGHT!!! That one is in the books... finished the race in 3:43:53... My goal was less than 4 hours and walked a bunch during the run... Could have knocked off about 5 -10 minutes if I had the legs to keep going, but no can do.... Here are my stats...:

78th out of 102 men
105th out of 137 overall

My clydesdale group:

Swim: 1500m: 2nd/8 31:34
Bike: 23 miles: 6/8 1:55:16
Run: 6 miles: 6/8 1:09:43

Not fair the 240lb'ers like myself are racing against 200lb'ers.. That is alot of weight, especially on the bike up the damn hills. Pretty proud of my results... Till next time, later....

Congratulations! Sounds like all went well.

Yes, up the hills are tough, but you can catch them on the downhill sections

Hope you all are keeping up with the training.....

Well, just 4 days away! My life is almost revolving around Silverman! It's a good thing though. There are worse things to obsess about! It's tough to work when all I do is think about training, logistics, nutrition, etc about this race!

Lasvegas99, We'll hook up for sure - before this dang thing is over!

I just checked my workout logs for the year - I started my tri journey on Dec. 4, 2006. Almost 11 months to the day for the race! I don't think I would have ever thought I would do an HIM this year, even though I'm sure I dreamed of doing one when I started. It's a good feeling to make a dream a reality.
