YMCA
Total Time = 1h 13m 15s
Overall Rank = 99/219
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 6/8
Pre-race routine:

Got there early. Had everything I needed. Went pretty smoothly.
Swim
  • 10m 9s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt strong in swim. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy the swim seemed. I was passing people like crazy in the 2nd half. If the swim would have been longer, I would have moved up further I think.
What would you do differently?:

Be more aggressive at the start. I held back some at the beginning because I wasn't sure what I was doing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Don't know why this took so long...
What would you do differently?:

Put watch and number on bike. Skip the sunglasses. Put bike closer to end of rack.
Bike
  • 33m 34s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Was trying for 18mph average and almost made it. That is about the best I can do at this point with the mountain bike. I passed more people than I thought I would. Unfortunately they just weren't the people in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Get a better bike :) Just keep training and pushing mph up. For only bike training for one month and no background in it, I think I did okay.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Bikes were all over rack and couldn't get mine on. Had to move other people's bikes to get mine on.
What would you do differently?:

Put bike on end if I get there early enough. Make sure to know how the transition goes out to run start. Some confusion there. Not sure what else to do.
Run
  • 25m 55s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Very HOT!!! Was faster for each mile and had a kick at the end. Legs were tired from the bike. Need more bricks and longer ones in training.
What would you do differently?:

Need more bricks and longer ones in training.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slow transition times definitely affected my performance. A minute faster in transitions would have moved me up two places. Bike time was the second factor. I was 2nd in swim, 4th in run, but 7th in bike.

Event comments:

Needed a little more direction at start of run -- volunteers acted like we knew where to go already.
