Pre-race routine:

The race was right down the road from the house, so I didn't have to get up as early as the previous race. I had everything ready to go. Had some trouble getting to parking, but since I knew the area, I was able to get around traffic after losing only about 10-15 minutes.
Event warmup:

Since I was running a little behind, I didn't have a bunch of warmup time, but I wasn't rushed either. I didn't get into the water, but didn't really want to either as the air temp was cool.
Swim
  • 32m
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Never got into a good rythmn. Lots of bumping into other swimmers. I tried to draft behind a guy once - and he stopped! WTF. No more drafting for me.

The water was great! Not too warm; not too cool. Coming out of the water was all rocks - that sucked. I was trying to hurry and slipped on a rock. Thankfully, I didn't get hurt, but after that I just slowly walking in from the water.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure how, but it would be nice to position myself where I'm not bumping into folks.
Transition 1
  • 06m
Comments:

Again, I was in no big hurry in the transition. Everything went fine.
Bike
  • 1h 00m
  • 17.8 miles
  • 17.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to continue working on my bike endurance. No problems on this race, but it was short. Getting out of the aero position going up all those hills helped save my back too. I couldn't get myself to drink enough - I was full for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practice more eating and drinking to get ready for longer races.
Transition 2
  • 04m
Comments:

No issues.
Run
  • 51m
  • 5.8 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I had run the course on the Tuesday prior. This helped tremendously, because Tuesday I went out too fast and died about 2/3 of the way through. So, I knew to take it easy on the way out and then sped up on the last 1/3. This worked well for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing....just keep trying to get faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Lindsey and Jack were surprised me and showed up! It was cool to actually know someone at the race. Jack and I shared a banana and stretched together.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I may need to work on swimming shorter distances faster instead of just swimming longer distances.

Event comments:

The parking was not great - they could have organized the routes to parking better.

Congrats on the strong finish.  You're already stronger than me in all three events!  Keep up the training for the HIM.  That distance is no joke.  Don't make my mistakes, and keep well hydrated and take in a proper amount of nutrition.

good race!

I'm familiar with the course, I did the sprint distance last year (would have done it again, but dealing with an injury)

It's a hilly course, beautiful though isn't it!

Keep working on the swim - although that's tough to have to get out of the water and do it again - assuming the course was the same as last year
