Fall Frenzy Triathlon
81F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 10m 57s
Overall Rank = 33/535
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 5/30
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5 am, oatmeal and blueberries. Gatorade and recoverite in the car. Got there around 6am, great spot in transition. Red a mag in the car for a while until it was light. Finished the setup, chatted with Zev whose bike weighs as much as one of my wheels :).
Event warmup:

Ran around a bit, checking all the routes in and out of transition and the dirt hill at the beginning and end of the run. Swam for 5mins in the shallow area before lining up in the fast lane.
Swim
  • 07m 32s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

OK, this pretty much sucked excuse the word. Swam in the fast lane. Although it resulted we had the perfect group where no one passed any of the others, I was never comfortable in the water, never got into a rythm and my flipturns were really bad! I felt rushed and uncomfortable. Time was decent but could be much better.

Wonder where the mat was for the timing, anybody know? Exiting the pool? I timed myself at about 7:15.
What would you do differently?:

Relax, swim my own race! Stop slacking on the swim training, do your flipturns when praticing and start improving!
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

Best swim to bike transition so far.
Again wonder where the mat was?
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 36m 55s
  • 13 miles
  • 21.13 mile/hr
Comments:

I worked it hard, great ride for me. Only got passed by one person.
What would you do differently?:

Need more power uphill, something to work on during the winter months.
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Good transition. This is where experience pays off.
Run
  • 23m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run for me. First time ever I break 24 mins on 3 miles. My stomach hurt like hell could not drink anything but was able to keep on pounding.
What would you do differently?:

Work on pre-race nutrition to avoid the stomach pain. Maybe I am drinking to much gatorade.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, light massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Relax on the swim, harder on the hills and avoid the stomach pains on the run.

Event comments:

Great race for me! 15mins faster than last year. Big PR overall, bike and run!! :)

My goal was to break 1:10 which I had hoped would lead to a podium place..still got some work to do and dreams to dream.

Great race--and a big improvement from last year, too. It's a fun race to measure progress year to year. Great times on everything--I wish I had your times, especially the swim. Congrats!

Wow!  A 15 minute PR is great.  Your times were good all around especially your swim and your transitions.  All your training has paid off.
