Comments:

Swim was fine. I liked that they started my age group first (for the sprint) so I was able to get off to a fast start without swimming over people. By the time we rounded the 2nd buoy we were into the Oly distance swimmers though and it got much more congested. It ws COLD and I'm very glad I had a wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on speed in the pool. Swimmings my best event and I get lazy with easy workouts.
Transition 1
  • 04m 43s
Comments:

I couldn't get my feet clipped in for the first 1/2 mile!!!! So frustrating. It really made for a slow start. Also, I need to remember NOT to unzip my wetsuit before exiting the water completely. My legs filled up with water and were VERY heavy.
What would you do differently?:

Not unzip too early. I think I may try having my shoes pre-clipped to my petals next time.
Bike
  • 41m 59s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.76 mile/hr
Comments:

If I would have been clipped in sooner I would have had a much better ride. Also, it was pretty cold and between the cold and the distraction of my shoes I had a hard time pulling my focus together. Once I got going around mile 2 I was fine and I pushed pretty hard.
What would you do differently?:

Clip my shoes on first.... MAYBE.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Riding with feet on top of shoes???? Didn't think to do that. I find it hard to get off my bike without stopping completely.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Run
  • 30m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt pretty good. My feet were numb for the first 3/4 of the run and I could feel my orthodic in my shoe. I was a little worried it was in the wrong place because I don't usually notice it, but my feet were so cold I figured the cold was affecting the way they felt. I tried to keep my legs moving fast and focused on my stride and breathing. I went MUCH faster this time than the last race so I'm pretty happy with that.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot. I just need to work more on my speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Wandered around a bit. Got a banana and some water and went home to see my kids!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my bike shoes and not being able to clip them in right away.

Event comments:

Great race except for the traffic situation. They need to change the location of the bike, or shut down that road for a couple of hours on race day.

Course: Hilly and fast... except where there was traffic. WAY too much traffice. Very dangerous around 3/4 of the way through the bike where cars were all lined up. We had to ride between the car and the white line on the road or end up in the gravel. It really slowed everyone down and I'm surprised no one got clipped by a rear view mirror.

Great race!  Woohoo!

I have never tried swimming with a wet suit - good to know what you would have done differently.
