Seaford - TriathlonOlympic

View Member's Race Log
Seaford,
England
32C / 90F
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 05m
Overall Rank = 26/40
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Cycled to Victoria with Georgia to catch train to Seaford, then cycled to event.
Event warmup:

Georgia's mechanicals, my attempt to find sunscreen, and struggling into wetsuit.
Swim
  • 29m
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Better navigation than rest of group but this resulted in swimming alone much of the time, so harder work. No draft to catch.
What would you do differently?:

Try to sprint at start and stick with leading group.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

A very long run into transition and through the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Not fling wetsuit away quite so violently (necessitating need to recover it before running on to bike course).
Bike
  • 1h 30m
  • 25 miles
  • 16.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Very pleased with drinking schedule: managed to drink small amount every lap and so drank entire contents of water bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly try to go out slightly harder on the first few laps and then try to retain that pace over latter laps.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Slowed down a bit by need to put on t shirt and more sunscreen to prevent further sunburn.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure that have on waterproof suncream before the start of the race!
And make sure that have good supply of Ironman waterproof suncream well before race - don't rely on Expo exhibiter having stock.
Run
  • 1h 02m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Comfortable - too comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Should have pushed harder on first lap and tried to retain pace rather than seeing if could pick up pace on last lap.
Post race
Warm down:

Floated in sea with Georgia - divine!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having insufficient faith in my ability to run a little harder, combined with the extreme heat and mild sunburn.

Event comments:

Friendly small key event in pretty location but poor bike and run course.
