Pre-race routine:

Alarm went off at 0400. Was already awake. I am a light sleeper already, so anything out of the ordinary keeps me awake. Had coffee and peanut butter toast. Hubby dropped me off at T's house. Who knew it would only take 8 minutes at 0445. Rode with K and T. Got to the transition area about 0530. Putzed around transition until we got kicked out. Put on wetsuit to keep warm. Watched the waves start. I was in wave 14. I should have started at 0746. Started closer to 0800. I was freezing by the time I started. My finger tips were numb. Oh, yeah, and I had to pee. Met Madcow at the swim start, he was a swim buddy. I was more nervous for this race. I think because I had to wait such a long time to start. Race number 646.
Event warmup:

Does peeing in my wetsuit count?
Swim
  • 11m 11s
  • 370 meters
  • 03m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

This swim seemed harder than the last even though it was shorter. The first 100 seemed ok, then I got really fatigued. I swam more than half back stroke. But I did pass a few people from the wave in front of me. Got out of the water staggering, I could barely walk straight.
What would you do differently?:

More open water swimming!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Great transition. I was 13th in transition time. Yea ha! Even got a piece of gum. Just need to speed everything else up.
Bike
  • 26m 23s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 14.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was good. I was passing quite a few people, but was also passed by others. I was still freezing. The wind was cold in my wet clothes. Had arm warmers in my backpack :(
What would you do differently?:

More miles.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Left calf cramped as I was putting my shoe on. Flexed foot, only lasted about two seconds. Forgot to take m sunglasses off. It was not a big deal, just something new.
Run
  • 17m 1s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Actually ran the entire run. No calf problems, however I did feel my back getting tight, but I just ran through it. Got a "nice shirt" and "nice shoes" from other ladies on the run. Everyone was so nice.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a bagel, banana, drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

I had a great time. The ladies I have started this journey with are great.
