Comments: Course meandered through the neighborhood. The first mile was uphill, but not too steep (some people walked up the hill). After that is was fairly flat except for a short steep uphill around 2 mile mark. Diane and i settled into a good pace. There was a cute 8-year old boy running with his mom. At the last 1/2 mile, she gave him permission to take off. We all yelled "go Patrick!". What would you do differently?: nada Post race
Warm down: walked around, stretched, chatted, and walked home What limited your ability to perform faster: nada Event comments: I'm very proud of my son, William. He completed the race at 23:25 - a 7:33 mile pace. This was the longest he has run, as the jr high team races are all 2 miles and under. Last updated: 2007-10-16 12:00 AM

nothing unusual for a saturday morning. Race was at 10, so got up and had breakfest at the usual time.
This race kicks off an annual Oktoberfest (no beer though, what's with that??) in our neighborhood. I walked to the start at the neighborhood school with my 13-year son and his friend Niles, who are both on the jr high x-country team. I was impressed with the number of kids doing this race. Nile's brother, who runs with the high school, came in 7th overall.
I stretched a bit, "gas-bagged", and ran into my friend Diane, who was my race partner 2 years ago fora 4th of July 5-miler. She said she was looking to do a 9:10 pace. Since I'm viewing this race as a warm up to my half-marathon tomorrow, my goal is to have a fun and social race. I decided to run with Diane.
