Pre-race routine:

Met up with Manatee Express (Ken) and his wife Marcy -- fabulous! Ken is my BT mentor from January, and this is my first year ever trying any tri's, so it was wonderful to actually meet him. He's given me lots of advice and it was great to race side by side with him (actually, it wasn't really side by side because he beat me!!) Also met Ken's buddies, and another BT'er Biseman (Matt). Since I'm still a "newbie" there is no real pre-race routine. But at least I figured out the course before hand, and somewhat knew what to expect. I drove the course the night before so I'd at least know the lay of the land -- like that bridge!!!!
Event warmup:

A couple of stretches, but mostly a big bunch of nothing. I got there very early because of the nerves and not knowing what to expect, but then sat for awhile. I hadn't ever run and then jumped back on the bike, and ended up with calf cramps the whole way back, so I wonder what kind of warm up I could have done for that?

Warm down:

A surprise -- I won Grand Masters! I'm definitely happy about my performance.

Event comments:

What a fun race! I'm new at this, but I think I can convince some of my friends that this is a race worth doing!

Course: Since this is a reverse dualthon, this was actually a bike segment. But what a beautiful course! The weather was perfect for Florida (well, I guess we were in Alabama almost immediately). We rode out to a wonderful park, and the traffic was very much under control. Apparently the race committee was concerned about the amount of rain we had the last couple of days, and what it would do to the road, but I was able to easily sidestep most of the problem areas.

Course: This was a run segment. Another fabulous part of the course! We had horrendous rains over the last couple of days, but I think it enhanced the experience. As I was running along, I heard lots of frogs and other wildlife. I was also glad to see a DEAD snake -- I hate snakes!

Course: Back to the Florabama. Wind in my face the whole way! Plus Ken passed me -- I knew it would happen (and I told him that on the run) but it was still a little disappointing!
