Hello! This to announce that the Rochester Triathlon for June 29th, 2008 has opened up its early bird registration. We are also announcing we have a $2,000 Elite Prize Purse going up for grabs for the first 50 Elite participants registering. We also have a Trek Equinox 7 triathlon bike donated by Trek Bikes and Rochester Cycle & Fitness to give away (all participants are eligible). This USAT Sanctioned and Directed race has the city of Rochester excited and we have gained the support of some many organizations. This event is going to benefit the United Way of Olmsted County and its Imagination Library Program. We are excited to have KFAN AM1270 reporting on race day, so it is going to be a great day for us. We are super excited to be hosting this event.

Take advantage of the early bird registration savings now!

Thanks,

Bill Nevala

Thanks for the info Bill.  Wishing you the best of luck in your tri this year.  I have been hoping we could see more triathlons in the southern part of the state.  Perhaps you could post a link to the web site for the race.

Thanks Joe, you doing this one.  I checked out the web site and I saw they are tenatively planning a HIM.  Interesting.

Hi,

Yes, I have started the planning for a 1/2 Ironman in the later part of the season. I have a 56 mile bike course figured out already and have a verbal OK from MNDOT that it is good to pursue this. I am not going to kid anyone, the bike course is both scenic and very challenging. I rode the bike course a few weeks ago and it is tough, but I am not Lance Armstrong or event 1/2 of a J. Sartain. The name of the 1/2 IM I am planning is the Zumbroman HIM. The Zumbro name is for the Zumbro River Valley the race is located in. The swim will be in Lake Zumbro. I two different potential venues for the race, which I need to work with our committee to weigh the pros and cons of each. Parking seems to be the biggest issue with doing a tri on Lake Zumbro. I think it is something we can overcome though. I think the idea of doing a 1/2 down here is awesome, but will take some considerable planning. The bike course is quite big and touches 3 counties and towns of Hammond, Millville, Elgin, Rochester, and Oronoco. I curious to hear when everyone would be interested in this race happening. I was thinking maybe in August or September. Need to look at the current race calendar to see when it would not conflict with other races.

Take care!

Bill

Bryan, I'm not sure if I'll race it, volunteer at it or spectate (if my wife is working and I'm watching the kids). But I'm sure I'll be there regardless. Maybe I'll even have people over for some grilled chix and veggies and a few beers afterward I might do that for the du or the marathon too!

Bill, that 1/2 course sounds nice. That county road off of 63 heading into Milleville is one of my favorites to ride on. It's a tad bumpy in spots, but it's fast and riding for 10 miles along the river is fantastic. Unfortunately what goes down in this case must go up. That is a long climb out of the valley. I broke my top speed record going down that hill, 52 mph if I remember correctly.
