Comments: If I hadn't signed up for this three halfs in three months thing I probably would have blown this off. We had a graduation party last night for my wife and her friends on our friends house boat. We were in a light parade on Drs Lake and that was pretty cool. The reason I mention this is that I was up too late and drank too many beers to be out running a half marathon at 7am. I was trying to be careful but.... I ran into my friend Eddie at the starting line and we chatted for a bit. The gun went off and I tried to get into a groove. It was really an effort for the first couple miles. I Gu'd early and drank water regularly. I am pretty sure I was sweating beer the first couple miles. Earlier in the year I had considered doing the full marathon instead of the half. There was no thoughts of that at the 1/2 mary turnaround point. I kept my pace steady and kept up my usual scan for pony tails. When I am running these races without a partner I find myself listening to other peoples conversations. It is amazing what people talk about. Once I hit mile 10 I thought about kicking it up a bit. My body didn't respond to those thoughts until mile 11. Even then it was only by 15 seconds a mile. I was able to trim off a few more seconds in mile 12-13. I felt good enough to kick through the grass at the end. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much the night before. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a couple bananas and headed home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Beer and my lackadasical training. Last updated: 2007-12-14 12:00 AM
