Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 51m 50s
Overall Rank = 1831/2207
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 306/351
Pre-race routine:

checked my bike on the Saturday afternoon.
Drank heaps of water on Staurday and again that night
Had the perfect dinner of chicken pasta with a light tomato sauce (mum made it)
No breakfast but had an energy bar about 30 mins before start
Went to the loo before the line got too big
Tried to stay out of the rain
Set up my shirt, shoes (in plastic bags), helment, glases, water bottles and checked over my bike
Stuck my Gels to my bike (won't do this again as one fell off, need to find a better way to store them)
Checked the entry and exit spots for the swim, bike and run about 2 or 3 times
Went to the loo again
Event warmup:

Not much. a small swim and a few stretches
Swim
  • 30m 20s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

It was pretty rough going as the waves set off every 2 or 3 minutes so I had fast swimmers from the other waves coming through all the time, need to swim faster I guess. Overall it went well. Felt good when i got out to start the ride.
What would you do differently?:

know that i know the course this should help for next year.
Work on my navigaion skills and swim more in training
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Go T1. Put my bike shoes on in T1 instead of on bike. The ground was soft so i could get good grip with my bike shoes and was able to get up to speed on the bike quickly.
What would you do differently?:

It went smoothly so wouldn't change
Bike
  • 1h 25m 10s
  • 40 kms
  • 28.18 km/hr
Comments:

I took the ride comfortably as wasn't sure of how I would go over this Tri distance, although I don't think I could have gone much faster. Also wanted to leave enough energy for the run (which I'm glad I did as there were a few people walking the run section, but not me).
Need more hill training and general cycling as I got passed by many, many people.
Had a Gel after coming down the hill. Didn't drink a lot of water as it wasn't that hot with it raining off and on.
What would you do differently?:

More training on hills and cycling in general
Attach Gels differently as i lost one (i didn't miss it though)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Sat down to put on socks and shoes as I was wobbling all over the place.
Took a big gulp of water and took off.
What would you do differently?:

It all went fairly well
Run
  • 56m 20s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

This is my strongest leg and although my time was slower then i normally run it was still good compared to others in my age group.Took on water and energy stuff (which tasted terrible).
What would you do differently?:

Train for longer runs
Post race
Warm down:

Drank heaps of water. Ate lots of watermelon. Tried to stretch some, although my legs hurt a fair bit.
I lined up for a massage and it was worth every second of the 45 minutes that I had to wait in line for.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My overall fitness and training. My lack of experience of Tri's of this distance but I have learnt that I can complete these and should be able to push myself more next time.

Event comments:

This was my first race at the olympic distance and I really enjoyed it. I achieved 3 out of 4 goals, finish the race, finish under 3 hours and beat my mates and my fourth goal of finishing under 2:45 will have to wait until next year. I've learnt a lot about my ability and determination to succeed and have gained a lot of confidence from this race. I'm planning to keep on Tri'ing and to race in our local sprint series which is just getting under way and to build on the experience and confidence that i have gained from Noosa.
