If your having problems going in a straight line, it could be that you are pulling too hard on one side, probably your dominate side. There are a bunch of drills you can try. It gets worse for me when I get tired. Concentrate on finishing off your stroke. Brush your thumb on your hip as it exits the water.

Looks like we got bumped to the archives. I will leave it up to the group if you want to keep this going.

Also something else to help with open water swims and a straight line. Plan ahead on how many strokes you want to take before you sight and count your strokes. this keeps your mind busy instead of thinking about the open water.

, I hope I didn't contribute to this being bumped. I've been busy and sick. I am doing a 5K on the 17th as a prep for my sprint. Tonight I did an indoor workout on treadmill and stationary. 7 miles run in 64 minutes and 10.25 miles biked in 30 minutes. Quick but good.
