Pre-race routine:

Got up about 7, ate a health bar and drank some gatorade, and was off. Got to the race site very early; found a Starbucks and had a gingerbread latte; registered right when the door opened at 8:45. Met up with Timra and Nancy, two folks that I trained with when I did a Team in Training triathlon in May '05.
Event warmup:

Lots of stretching -- felt wonderful to stretch in a warm room! Ate a banana and chatted with others; was joined by Chip, another TnT alum.
Run
  • 59m 39s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

The race was a "no pressure" race for me -- no expectations (except not to push myself and not to get hurt). The cadence meter worked great -- kept it set at 92 most of the course. Passed lots of folks just keeping an even pace and got passed by just a few.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, perhaps sleep in an hour extra and pre-register next year :)
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, ate a couple of Vie la France cookies, and was on my way home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running on the uneven surface and the strong winds from the NW ...

Event comments:

A great race venue; will definately do this next year!

Unofficial time from my GPS. My GPS also said the total distance was 5.806 miles, with an average pace over that distance of 9:16/mi, so go figure. At that average pace 5.806 mi should have only taken me 53:48, so something is WAYYYYYY off...
Course: Field running, about 2 blocks of paved running, the rest is dirt roads that are used as the main access roads in Morven Park, a horse-farm/estate. Absolutely beautiful run in the foothills. There were a few gotcha hills near the end, but used my cadence marker and just plodded right up the inclines.
