  • Comments: This race was a blast, a great pick for my first HIM. Most everything was organized and ran smoothly. Volunteers were great, i thanked all of them that i saw. The swim was rough for me just because i didnt know what to expect. The bike course was gorgeous and fast. And the run was good because we got lots of fan support and nutrition (especially ice to cool down). One gripe was the run course cut off the ONLY EXIT from the parking lot, and i almost missed my flight because of the backup.

  • Comments: It was a good race. I will probably do it again. It didn't have enough porta potties around transition I didn't think. 2-3 in transition and 2-3 out of transition for 2800 people.

  • Comments: well run race. plenty of post race food and drink this year. some aid stations were slow in filling/handing out water/perform/cola in the later laps. no ice sponges this year...1st aid station ran out and never saw any others. they did have cups of ice at all aid stations though.

  • Comments: Good race for me overall. First HIM where I felt like I could run to my potential coming off the bike. We'll see how IMTX goes, but I really like this distance and my decide to focus on it.

  • Comments: I had a lot of fun and due to my IT band issue, I was happy to show up for my first HIM mostly uninjured, yet slightly undertrained. I am happy with my BT custom training plan/coach to help me get there! I had a Ironman buddy tell me to pray and enjoy the race. I wrote that on the back of my right hand and looked at it and did both often during the race. It was a little something that just helped ease my mind and help me to enjoy the experience. I also always write my families initials on a finger and added my BT training group (BDAS) on another finger. Both groups helped me get to and across the line!

  • Comments: Much prettier version here: http://ironultrared.blogspot.com/2012/04/memorial-hermann-ironman-7... So that just leaves a few things to mention. Nutrition: Overall pretty good. I need to tweak my bike nutrition just a bit, but once I got off the bike and started running, things were great. The FLEXR Sports system really impressed me. I'll post a review of the setup, but I'll also be upgrading bottles to handle the increased demands for Ironman Texas. I do want to add that the setup accommodates those using Infinit Nutrition's custom mixes quite well. Shades and helmet: I've been reviewing the Rudy Hypermask sunglasses, and this was the last bit of my review process. I'm happy with them. I also had to replace my helmet after my wreck in mid March. I chose the Rudy Slinger. Great helmet, light and with lots of airflow. This is my second half iron distance race with a sub six hour time, and I PR'd by almost five minutes. My transitions were faster, and

  • Comments: I truly enjoyed this race and am amazed that I did this distance. I had done all the distances in the past just not all together. Two friends already had 2 or 3 HIM under their belt and I only planned on doing all sprints or Olys. When I did my first Oly and realized the swim was not much further, then I decided to sign up. I did this tri last year but the sprint so I was somewhat familiar with the course. I will absolutely be doing more HIM and hopefully this year. I will definitely plan on doing this one every year and just try to better my time. Great race and I had fun doing it the whole time which is really what matters to me.

  • Comments: Enjoyed race. Weather was great. Couldn't have asked for much better temps, winds and humidity compared to what it could be. Lots of volunteers so there was good support.

  • Comments: Overall this was a great race and I would like to do it again. Well organized, good location, great course. The only negatives are the aid stations could have been closer on the run. But I don't think they expected it to be that hot. So it would have been great if it was 70 instead of 80.

  • Comments: The race was well organized. A flat course is not overly appealing to me but I still enjoyed it. I don't train on flat so wasn't entirely sure what I could push pace wise. I kept hearing about this Texas humidity and heat and honestly, except for a few times on the run felt pretty good. The cloud cover helped. Humidity was not a factor for me and I train in the sun so I was surprised about how much of a non-factor it was

  • Comments: I LOVE THIS RACE. The size of this race is just amazing. Almost 400 men in my dang AG. I saw Lance leading the bike on his way back and thought I caught a glimpse of him when I started the run (bunch of cameras on him the whole way) Someone punk'd Lance at the line and he ended up in 7th by :01 second. Way to go Tim O'Donnell for the win! The volunteers were awesome and the aid stations were outstanding during the entire run. The bike hand-ups were pretty solid and the course was well protected. Special thanks to the guy CRANKING the rock music at one point on the run. I never walked past him and it was another place that kept me going.

  • Comments: This is a great race if you're looking for a "large" HIM on an easy, forgiving course. Salt water wet suit swim, flat bike, and flat run make the significant challanges in this race the weather and the distance, rather than the course. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for that "first" HIM or looking for an early-season HIM tune-up race.

  • Comments: This race is tough, although the course is not challenging, with flat bike, and run. The weather with high humidity of 90%, winds, and heat, it becomes a challenge in that way. I would doubt that i do this race again given the weather conditions. Humidity kills me anywhere. Salt water swim with some choppy waves on my breathing side was not helpful.

  • Comments: This was one of the better organized races I've done. Granted it was twice the size of the others and twice the length. But it was better than the 5150 also put on by the WTC.

  • Comments: Always a good race. It was nice getting to see the pros, especially Lance Armstrong. Too bad he didn't do well on this one as his run was slow compared to his first 70.3 race in Panama.

  • Comments: The post race was much better than last year in terms of having food for the athletes. I like the course for the most part...I did not like the addition of running on the tarmac of the airport. It was very hot during that portion of the run and it made the run feel much longer...I know the feeling longer is a mental thing, but a big part of the HIM is the mental aspect. All and all, it was a good race.

  • Comments: Good job this year...best of the last 3 years. They had plenty of food post-race. Had to wait on pizza, but the wait wasn't long...better than them having shut it down before I finished last year. Great friendly volunteers and amazing spectator support. The course was crowded with lots of folks cheering...even for the slow people like me.
