  • Comments: The volunteers were great! The spectators were great! and for the most part the fellow racers were great. (Not the guys grabbing my ankles during the swim and the ones that did not follow the no drafting and blocking rules, but hey what can you do). I had a great time, loved the race, the city and the whole experience!

  • Comments: the roads on the bike course have degraded further since last year, despite new pavement in a couple of sections and improved traffic control on the Webberville stretch (coned bike lane). The trail portion of the run course was in poor condition for a race of this magnitude.

  • Comments: Parking was a nightmare... I nearly missed my wave b/c I was in line to park for 45 minutes. There need to be more signs for spectators as well. For my first HIM, my goal was to cross the finish line. I was happy overall.

  • Comments: Successfully completed my first tri season. Furthermore, went from never having participated in any race of any kind (besides swim meets) in April to having completed, in order: a 10K in Austin at UT (May), an Olympic tri (CapTex, May), a 5K (along the water in San Diego, July), 5 weeks without any training or any cardio in Alaska (July-August); a sprint tri (Austin tri, September); and a half ironman (October). Definitely a weird pattern of events and training. Part of me wants to do a full ironman someday, part of me wants to do a marathon. I don’t think I’d love to commit the time to training appropriately for either of these but I think I could complete either one; perhaps a 3:30-3:40 marathon and maybe a 12:00-12:30 ironman? In the meantime, looking forward to more climbing, more tennis, and getting fat(ter) and laz(ier). I definitely think more sprint tri’s are in my future- that was a ton of fun to go out and hammer for a really short time and still have energy left in

  • Comments: I rate it average due the road surface on the bike. I also am not a fan of trail running. This made me feel like I was back in cross country in high school. Definitely not my favorite. I was also hoping it would be more through the nice scenic areas of Austin. It was a fairly ugly coarse.

  • Comments: Great race as far as I am concerned. Only negatives are it's so far away from everything so it's a haul to the race site and it's still too warm, for me anyway, in early October. Other than that...what a blast!

  • Comments: I loved the inside finish. The post race food was good and I enjoyed just sitting around and watching. The people in Austin definitely put on an excellent race. I would love to come back, however, with Muncie becoming a 70.3 and the temperature differences between Indy and Austin this time of year, I was not prepared for this heat. It was a great time and an great first time 70.3 branded race. For my first season, and the let down's I've had in not being consistent in training and my nutrition and a whole bunch of other reasons, I am sooo happy with my performance of 5:08 (which was 3 min off my "B" goal of 5:05) I've only been running (after a 3 year break) and swimming since July. With those factors, I've done 5 tri's in my first season 2 sprints, 1 oly, and 2 HIM's. I feel that I COULD finish a full Ironman next year, and had thought about signing up for Louisville, however, looking at myself and my mental state during the race, for the time being, I'm going to stay at the

  • Comments: The worse race of my life. Humbled to a walk on the second loop of the run after a series of bad luck events and bad decisions. I'm learning a lot though...

  • Comments: Again, I'm not a fan of the off-road stuff. It's brutal. Good race, but not sure I'd do it again unless they took it all out on the pavement. My goal was 7 hours, so I'm happy with 6:34. But, I know I can do better if I'm not injured. The heat sucked, but I dealt with it. Next time, I will break 6:30 if not 6:15! I know where there is room for improvement.
