  • Comments: Love this race in spite of everything that went wrong with the weather, the canceled swim, the late start, the sloppy T area, and the slush run off the island and back. Despite the added run leg, I was only 7s above my overall time goal of 1:08:00 (for the s-b-r). The bike leg was solid, but I will need to work on it to keep up with the guys from the big tri clubs. And man, this field was lightning-fast! 34 people beat 1:00:00 including 4 ag'ers. That took about 6:15/mi runs. I have work to do! • Comments: Results: http://www.ucsdtriathlon.org/tritonman/2010/results2010.txt Hats off to the UCSD tri club. For a volunteer race, this was excellent (and I know, because I've spent a lot of time organizing volunteers). The college vibe and games after the race contribute to the positive vibe. Where else can you see athletes going all out for a burrito or a water bottle? The announcer was excellent, and the crew made the best of the conditions. Areas of improvement? I would have liked a souvenir, and would have preferred to not swim into the sun, or at least been told about it beforehand.

  • Comments: I don't think they could have done much more about the mud. Its San Diego, its not supposed to rain anyway :). They did have the matts out and made a solid effort. Great race for a first race. Would be tempted to fly out and do it again. Plus, nice college chicks to look at (kidding).

  • Comments: Odd race. I loved the course itself, but it wasn't as professionally run as the first two Triathlons I did. The Transition area was a muddy bowl. Nobody can help the weather, but being prepared w/ mats for transition would have been great. The transition from Bike to Run was chaotic. When I was running out, there were bikes coming in and other runners coming into finish. It was a free for all w/ no defined area of where anybody should be. I had to dodge both bikers and runners. I am surprised there weren't any major crashes. Overall I enjoyed the race, loved the course itself, and had a great time; but if I can run 1 triathlon a month, next year I think I will try another venue.

  • Comments: Great race to get ready for season. It was very fast this year. Lots of college kids. Next year I will win this race.

  • Comments: This was a fun race. I'd do it again. Great to see all the college kids out there. We had two reality stars entered in the race, Survivor winner Parvati Shallow (she was in my age group and placed 5th) and some guy from the Amazing Race. It was fun to get out there early in the season. The Age Groupers are outnumbered by the college racers but it's a great race if you want a better chance of hitting the podium. Loved the awards ceremony, loved the stunts. Throw your friend in the bay win a water bottle, do the most push ups win a wetsuit. Very fun! I would consider coming back for next year.

  • Comments: Im hooked, I just signed up for my next one on March 8th a day after my 35th birthday. I guess that means I move to a diffrent age group. Still traumitized about the wet suit at this point I think I would rather brave the cold water than put it on.

  • Comments: For me this was a perfect first race. Everybody was friendly and helpful. The swim portion was in very calm water and the bike and run flat. I am really glad I picked this one and will be back next year. Thanks to all who help put this one on!

  • Comments: This was a fun race, though definitely done by college students. No race chips, somewhat flakey (but nice) volunteers, no sponsor tents for after the race. But it was good! They had a fun and creative raffle for a ton of nice gear gifts that really got the crowd going for a good hour after the race ... "Who has the lowest GPA? Okay, you win a wetsuit!" "First person to swim across the bay, run out and touch that tree over there and get back, you win a wetsuit!" Goofy, but fun. Really a great vibe and I would do it again.

  • Comments: This race is definitively cattered toward college people. Would advise for beginner. Most athletes are very fast on this course. 75% collegiate people with families also racing. Not many new beginner. I would do it in a hearbeat. Awesome race.

  • Comments: Field was 90%+ collegians. May be my only chance to say I placed first in my age group! Great weather for a race. A nice warmup.
