  • Comments: the day before the race was very hot and you had to park over a mile away from the tent, i was very nervous based on how things were run and how hot it was that this race was going to suck. i was wrong. cool finishing shoot with a yellow brick road and dorothy waving me it. awards were lack luster, the webtsite said awards for top three and then they handed out on two deep.

  • Comments: I think overall it was a great venue and was set up nicely. It does get a little cramped at times with everything being setup right at the entrance to camp ground 3 but it also mad it nice being able to stay directly at the venue.

  • Comments: Had a blast at this race. Was glad that I could hit my goal time, dropped about 22 minutes off last year's time. Even happier to be blessed with the opportunity to race and spend time with family and friends. Shawn, Andy, and Justin all had good races. Enjoyed the weekend with my family. Met some new people and Brian caught the bug to race again, great weekend.

  • Comments: No "Finisher"shirts, lack of available drinks following race. Didn't care for split transition areas and distance required to retrieve items and return to vehicle. Liked course and set new PR (although run time dissapointed.)

  • Comments: I liked the race. It was fun/well organized/and a first class event. Chrissie Wellington stayed and handed out medals to all of the finishers. She has got to be the hardest working woman in triathlon. Had a blast. Loved hanging out with all of my BT pals and meeting some new faces. It was great to see Shannon and Ocky again and finally meet Jen and Craig. Big THANKS to Barkeep (Mike) and Lisa for arranging the camping deal.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: I'm happy to say I completed the race, and it served part of its purpose: to motivate me to train hard this summer and knock a LOT of time off that result when I go to Branson in September. I found that I like the 70.3 distance a lot in spite of the leg difficulties, and I definitely want to do more of these. Also learned a good lesson: no matter how warm the water is the day before the race, ALWAYS bring your wetsuit. I was one of many who had to ride the bus back to the car to get mine.

  • Comments: My goal going into this race was to 1) Finish Strong with a smile on my face and 2) Not feel like I want to throw up my shoes! I've never broken 6 hours at this distance because I have always ended doing the death march on the run and basically blown up on all three previous tries. As I was coiming down the finishing shoot, I decided it was time to grab the watch out of my jersey pocket and see what the final result would be. 5:40!!! The smile on my face almost didn't fit in the finisher's chute!!! I crossed the line, and let out a HUGE YEEEAHHHHHH!!!! When I looked up Chrissie Wellington was standing right in front of me laughing with all of the spectator's that heard me scream. What a great topping to a great moment!! CLOSING THOUGHT: There is no way I could have completed this race without the direction of my good friend Coach Ross!! It all started about 7 months ago with him reviewing my past years' training logs and saying "Where's the Rest" Those of you that know Ryan

  • Comments: Good event. Will probably do it again next year. The heat was brutal all weekend but the atmosphere was really good. I had a goal of 7 hours coming into the race and finished at 6:06, so I was really pleased with the effort. Once I knew I had a shot at 6 hrs, I tried pushing a little harder but just couldn't muster up the energy. Overall performance I am happy with for my first time at this distance.

  • Comments: This was my first HIM. After several sprint and olys, I'm liking this distance the best. Now it's time to let my Physio do her majic and get my knee ready for Harvest Moon.

  • Comments: As my first HIM, I really have nothign to compare to. Overall, I thought it was a well run race. A couple gripes, but nothing major: 1) Swim waves didn't start on time due to not enough support in the water. The pro men must've treaded water for like 15 mins. They were supposed to start at 6:30, and I think their gun went off at 6:45 (give or take). 2) Armed Forces Challenge didn't have very good support. There was never anywhere I could "register" with the Air Force (at least that I couldn't find), so I don't know how my time would be counted for the Air Force in the Armed Forces Challenge. 3) Transition racks on the back side of T1 were pretty rickety and volunteers actually wound up having to hold the racks throughout the swim. Overall a good race, and I will more than likely do this again.

  • Comments: I will be doing this race again, if not next year then sometime in the not too distant future. Of all the races I have done this was by far my favorite. The three hours on the bike seemed like a hour long training ride... it was so much fun to blast down the hills. The run could use some more shade but at least I got a good tan. Camping is definitely the way to go, and the people I met were all awesome!! (triathlon has an incredible community).

  • Comments: Overall I like this race. The ice bath rules. Plan to do them again, even if I have to make my own. Hills were challenging on the bike course and the ones on the run. I'm glad God gave me the strength and ability to finally compete in this race (since I hurt my back last year). I just praise God that he gave me the strength, ability, and desire to do this race. My goal for this race was 6:15-6:30. He gave me the ability to finish this race in 5:47:36. Totally awesome.

  • Comments: This was quite an amazing experience. I had two goals for this race- finish and have a good time and both were accomplished. My 4 year old daughter was telling me this afternoon about how awesome Chrissie was. That was cool. She told me she wanted to be able to swim as fast as Chrissie when she grows up. What a great role model. BTW- anyone reading this planning to do the race in 2011- you should definitely camp at the race site. My family stayed in a hotel in town and said the traffic getting into the park was awful, but they also had to park a couple miles away. It was pretty nice just waking up and walking to set up.

  • Comments: LIked this race, but I don't know if I'd do it again- this part of the country is just so hot and humid during the early summer.
