  • Comments: More timing chip issues, thankfully not with me this time, but the splits aren't available so I don't have the exact times above. The RD looked pissed off after the race, possibly at the timers. For me? Are you kidding? I made podium at TriRidgefield! This is a very competitive race and serious athletes show up from around the state. There were a few names missing, but nothing that would have changed my outcome. I am very proud of this race, a hell of a way to start the season!

  • Comments: This is a pretty competitive race for the area, and a lot of really fast people enter to win, which makes it a great annual barometer for me. My goals were to finish under 1:20, and swim and bike well, which I did, so I'm very happy with my performance. I was crap on the run, wouldn't have mattered from a podium perspective, though. Gives me something to work on, which is a great gift to get from a race. The mass swim start is unnecessary, but the RD is who he is. It will always be my hometown race, and unless I do Quassy's half one year, I'll come back every time.

  • Comments: This was my first triathlon in 20+ years and I did not know what to expect. My wife thought I was crazy and having a mid-life when i told her that I wanted to start training for a Triathlon. Did better than I expected, but have plenty of room and motivation for improvement. The race was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to doing a couple of more.

  • Comments: So it was a good day! Got not only my first podium, but also my first big W all at the same time!...actually its the first race I have EVER took first place in in in my whole life. And one final braggadocio (since this might be the only time I ever win a race since I am age grouping up to the uber competitive M30-34 next year): Apparently they take the top 20 from the previous year and stick them into the 'elite' wave for the next year. Daunting? YEP! I gotta get a LOT faster!!!!

  • Comments: This is a good race, they do a good job. My only complaint would be that we could not hear the announcer doing the countdown for the swim. But that is splitting hairs. past overall results 2009 1h 23m 21s 114/350 30/61 M40-44 2010 1h 19m 11s 81/365 24/58 M40-44 2011 1h 11m 47s 27/395 6/56 M40-44

  • Comments: Very nice race. Lots of locals from the town who seemed to know one another. Pretty, leafy neighborhood with rolling hills for the bike, but nothing too steep or challenging. Run had some decent short hills. Lake was clean with lots of lifeguards.

  • Comments: I went into this race hoping for a 10:30, 35:30 and 23:00 splits (plus 2:30 for transitions) so was really pleased with the result. I also had a "shoot the moon" goal of 1:09 (hey-1:09.02 isn't too far off). PB sprint time by over 3 min :)

  • Comments: Second year for this race. Course was better this year but transition needs some work. I felt bad for some of the slower racers who had to navigate through a crowd to get in and out of transition. Nothing a few more barricades couldn't fix. Will definately do this again next year.

  • Comments: This is a tricky venue as it's cramped. Bike and run go out and come back on the same stretch of road, so at certain times during the race there is 4-way traffic on a 2-lane road. They did a good job of seperating the different folks but the finish area was a squish. I've heard that the folks that own the lake (and have a motorized boat ban) are keen to not have the race back due to the rescue boat that they have. This would be a shame - can they cover the swim without motorized support? Is there any where else in R'field to have the tri? Nice race - courses are a little tough but fair and not totally crushing for newbies. Lake is spring-fed and nice conditions. Field doubled this year to 400. It's a treat to have a race so close. There was packet pick-up the day before where you could have also practise swum between 6-6:45pm. "Tech"style t-shirts and nice little backpack thing for race bag. RD had involved local bike shop (Bethel Cycle) who were there day before and for last minute things

  • Comments: I don't want to knock this race hard, because I think the RD is a good guy who has done a lot of work for it, and it is a nice little local race. But some things need work. The layout of this course, I felt was just horrible. It made for extremely disorganized finishes for both the bike and run portions, and people were constantly crowding the course and getting in the way. I heard the announcer say, "Come on people, there are racers here, GET OFF THE COURSE". But the layout was such that it really facilitated bad behavior. Too much going on in a tiny area. Then, the post race activities were also mashed in there, so just...I dunno. I didn't know where the food was (Tom had to tell me, as he had been a spectator and noticed), and just a few other layout issues. The volunteers at the aid station and at the guiding points were great, except at the very end because I think there was too much chaos. As I mentioned above, I was approaching the bike finish and no one affiliated
