  • Comments: performance wise I think I raced exactly how I had planned to. In retrospect I could have gone harder on the bike and a lot harder on the run. Finished not feeling tired or sore (which is great, but not following a race) so I could definitely have given more. Still managed to beat last years time by 20 minutes. This is a very well run NO FRILLS race. The course and volunteers are excellent. The organization of the race is excellent. There is absolutely no effort put in to anything other than the race itself. No pre or post race meals. No entertainment. Nothing for spectators, family, or kids to do at any of the sites. No retail(except race merchandise). NOTHING in the registration bags.

  • Comments: I know there is quite a bit of criticsm about what you get for what you pay for this race. However, I don't really care to get a bunch of stuff with my race fee. I'm pretty happy with the cheap gatorade bottle I picked up at one of the bike aide stations. I would rather the race director put more money into police and other traffic control (they had alberta motor association drivers). There were major intersections involved in this race and I didn't experience any problems with vehicles on the course or have any doubts about my safety because their were traffic monitors everywhere. I really enjoyed the point to point race. I have never done one before and I felt that Calgary 70.3 did a really amazing job making sure that everything was on time and organized. There were tons and tons of volunteers to make it easy on me while racing: from wet suit strippers to volunteers to help put gear back into transition bag. Awesome, awesome volunteers. The only major criticism I have is the finishing

  • Comments: I just tried to complete the race without killing myself and not leaving myself too sore, which worked good cause I felt good the next day. Sometimes you just have to slow down and enjoy the event, because when its over, its over. Also I didn't see anyone handing out T-shirts when I finished so I didn't get one,but I did buy some other stuff this hippee guy was selling. Theres seems to be 500 people missing from who signed up and who finished. Where did these people go?

  • Comments: What can I say - I didn't train but I'm so proud of myself and now I have the bug again....I want to train and race! I love my bike!!! I love my hubby and my son! I hope to race with Crazy Pop at least once a year. I love the belt buckle finsihers medal but the cotton t-shirt design sucks. No swag in the race kit :( BTW, the trg in my log is what I was planning to do but never did - lol!

  • Comments: TONNES of great volunteers with amazing attitudes made this race. It was the first year this race has gone on, I think everyone should shut the hell up about the stupid little things they think is the responsibility of the RD and just loosen up, I think they did a great job. I'll never do the race again but I think they did great for year one.

  • Comments: It was the first race, so given that, it was pretty good. It was just so exciting to be part of a big race like that, and cross the finish line with your own finishing tape! I felt like a real super star coming down that chute, and got tons of energy from all of the crowds. My favourite cheerers and biggest supporters of all were of course my wonderful boyfriend Greg, and my good friend Catherine. There was never too much cowbell and honking during the day! Thanks so much you guys. Also great to see so many other familiar faces wishing me well, including my momma! What a great day!

  • Comments: For a first time run it went quite smooth, some minor corrections but overall a quality race. Although not alot of value for the money spent (bad cotton T shirt, no pre race dinner, no swag in package...)

  • Comments: The race itself ran very smoothly and the swim and bike course were amazing. The run course was poorly planned, too much going over the same ground. As far as race value, I am very disappointed. For the cost of the event there was nothing outside of the actual race provided for the riders. No pre-race dinner, no post-race dinner. There was absolutely nothing in the registration bag except for my race kit and a magazine. There was no swag at all. Finishers buckle is cool and the race t-shirt, but come on, not even a free water bottle. The organizers should be a little embarrassed that they didn't provide a little more for the athletes. I really expected more out of an event put on by our sports biggest name. There was no "expo" at the finish. There was no real food for the athletes at the finish (pizza, pop, bananas, maybe some cookies, that was all). I have definitely gotten better post race food from the Multisports Canada guys. All that being said, I know this was their first year doing

  • Comments: I rank this way behind the outback events. I think it will be 50 50 if it keeps going. It stopped alot of traffic. Great race. Fun bike course.

  • Comments: I loved the clean water swim and the unusual course was actually a lot of fun and a good challenge to my sighting and swimming skills. The bike course was beautiful, fast and fun. There was a lot of variety of terrain and our wind conditions also changed up a lot. Changing direction on course decreases the likelihood of agonizing headwinds. The run course is also really great. If I'd had a bit more zip in me, I would have appreciated the lovely park, the nice path, the different terrain, etc. I highly rate the course in this race. My only 2 complaints were: 1) Don't change the swim waves after you publish them once online. One of my friends from Saskatoon had to swim with a different wave because her's left without her. Perhaps she was supposed to be notified of the change at registration, but obviously she wasn't. 2) More aid stations and porta-potties were necessary.

  • Comments: Overall, for the first running of this event I think it went off pretty well. I have no major complaints. I was expecting more swag and would have preferred a technical finishers shirt. I though doing a M-dot event would have better perks but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am also curious as to the number of registered starters and the number of racers that took part. According to the race website there were over 1600 registered people, but according to the finishers list there were less than 1100 finishers. What happened to the other 500+ people?

  • Comments: Good race, there were some things that picked me like the two too small transitions bags they give you that you must use, but not bad overall. I didn't stick around for the awards. I wanted to go home for a beer!

  • Comments: Seemed fairly well organized. I didn't really experience any issues given it was a first time race. If I had to benchmark this to the only other triathlon event or other running events I've done, I'd say it was average to just below average in terms of meeting my expectations. The volunteers were great and there were lots of them. Kudos to them.

  • Comments: Okay, so here it is. The race was good. I wanted to do the WTC thing and I did. Compared to the other half offered in Calgary however, the Chinook half, this race takes a distance second. I mean the race was good, it was well organized for a first race. Taking the buses out to ghost actually was not that bad, kinda fun, kinda like going on a school trip. I got all of my stuff back in my transition bags, amazing. The race director dudes who gave the race briefing seemed nice enough. The seminars were good. Support on the run was awesome. There were some downsides, 2 aid stations on the bike for one, that is not enough. Having some announcer from the states doing the morning announcements anyways..... You know, the race was good. I suppose I am comparing this race to the Chinook half or the Grand Coulee Iron distance. Both of those races were great and I guess I was spoiled by them. I mean, nothing in the swag bag. Not even a water bottle with the sponsors name on it.

  • Comments: I like the course - it is challenging but do-able. A few first-time organizational issues (e.g. late changing the swim heats caused one of our friends to miss her time, return bus for spectators did not go right back to t2 and so my friends missed all of the pros). Could use more aid stations on the bike. Pre-race and post-race activities paled in comparison to some other races I've done, but I guess they were on par for other M-dot events. I would consider doing this race again some year. Full results available here.

  • Comments: Overall, I am very pleased and proud of myself for even finishing but I sure need more work in all three events to get more competetive in my age group since that is where I have always said I want to get to in this sport. In the end, my ankle tendonitis proved to be a non-factor although it is quite sore today. The Hammer Perpetuem Endurance Nutrition System seemed to work out fine (no bonking) although I would prefer the solutions to be a lot more diluted next time. I think I would add a few more gels to the program next time too. Also, I pretty much forgot to use the SaltStick caps on the bike and completely forgot to put the Mini SaltStick in the T2 bag... Duh! All in all, it was an excellent and VERY eye-opening experience! It was pretty cool to see the pros in racing in person (even though I only got to see them in the swim) and to see how huge of a production is involved when the Big M-DOT Unit hits town!
