  • Comments: This is a well-organized race event, and starting in downtown Richmond, running through different neighborhoods, and finishing by the river, I think is just well-thought out. I finished in the top 6.5% of all runners, and the top 13.3% of male runners, not too shabby for someone approaching his 66th birthday.

  • Comments: Great course. Great crowd support. Nice schwag this year - I love the fleece blanket and the hefty medal.

  • Comments: I had booked a massage post race several months ago. Thankful I did. Crystal is an angel and gave me an extra 15 minutes on the legs.

  • Comments: This is a great race and Richmond really rolls out the carpet for everyone. With 16K+ participants (in all 3 races), it's by far the biggest race I've ever done and that makes it a unique experience for me. Volunteers are amazing... great bands / music along the way (loved the Gospel group around mi 11). It's a bit of a hike for me, especially with the pre-race packet pickup being the day before. Either need to make a weekend of it or pass on it next year... just too far / too much driving. However, if I ever decide to do a marathon, it will be this one (and I'll stay in Richmond). Speaking of which, saw the top 3 marathon finishers... wow... did the winner look smooth and strong at 26 miles. Amazing!

  • Comments: I love this race - set my Half PR here last year and will be back again. The event is well run and supported and the course is pretty. They changed it from last year to run through Bryan Park, which is gorgeous, although a little hillier than the neighborhood from last year.

  • Comments: First "big" race for me and only my 2nd 1/2 Mar ever (last one was 2 1/2 years ago). Very happy with my time and results. Kept a steady pace with no miles over 9:35 other than the 1st mile which was amazing for me (I always fade in longer races). Great fans... lots of people cheering. Mike did a 1.43... he is an animal (clydesdale as well!). Ran with music (headphones) for the 1st time in awhile which I think helped me stay focused and motivated (Great Big Sea). I was having some bad foot pain in my last week before the race and also after the race. Actually had to stop running last weekend b/c of the pain. Maybe my shoes are shot? Or perhaps going from 10K to 1/2 Mary distance in 5 weeks took a toll on me. Anyway, didn't run at all the week before the race just to give my feet every opportunity to heal up. Fortunately, was able to avoid not being able to finish. Found that by leaning forward just a bit, it was less painful (I guess it changed how I hit the ground). I'll

  • Comments: Sportsbackers does a good event. Richmond supports this race well. Loads of spectators with cowbell, noise makers and posters. Fair amunt of bands or mobile DJ's--though I used my ipod and had a blast singing along with that :)

  • Comments: I've done the 8K race that goes along with this, and now the half. (Next year the full...shhhhh - don't tell Sugar Daddy yet...he thinks I'm just doing a full in April.) Sportsbackers puts on a good race weekend. The kids race last night was fantastic. Things were on time. Volunteers were awesome. Plenty of aid stations. Lots of portapotties (that I didn't need, but I was watching for them in case). Not as much music as they promised, but since they let idiots people use iPods, maybe noone noticed except me. My only other gripes were the lame post-race food and the fact that they had "technical difficulties" in getting the official results posted. Otherwise, HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY.

  • Comments: *If I had gotten my PortaPottie stop in BEFORE the race, I would have finished in 2:01 or 2:00 flat. So, when i was actually running, as opposed to peeing, I averaged about 9:15

  • Comments: I would have loved to beat my time from April, just didn't have it with the injury. Was glad to be able to run the whole race and very thankful for the company of another BT'er! Dan, you really--literally--pulled me through on this one. Thanks!
