  • Comments: 3 Ironman races in one season....it's not crazy, but it put me over the edge mentally. Now onto my Oscar winning "thank yous" A huge thank you to so many of you that follow my training and inspire me. Training this season did not go as planned, but its such a good parallel to life.....life does not follow a plan, so I treat it like Ironman...suck it up, adjust, smile and keep moving forward. To Mike and Maddie, lots of hugs and kisses for coming to my race. Mike, even as kids you always encouraged me to compete. You are always in my corner, thank you for always being there for me...especially at the finish line this time around. I can't express how much it meant to me to see you welcome me "home". Maddie, thank you for the signs and cheering your heart out! I hope you understand that while I did not "win" the race, that finishing is just as special. Some day I hope you will remmeber writing the names on me and know how special that was. I love you guys! For Dad, keep fighting!

  • Comments: So I guess given how tough things got out on the bike, I am pretty happy with this result. There's no doubt in my mind that I could have run a better marathon if my feet hadn't been messed up. To have gone 4:45 would have been just perfect. I'm very pleased with my bike split given the conditions. A flat 6 hour split would have been achievable for me on a better day. The swim... well, the swim is the swim. My transitions were fast and that's what helped to keep me under 13. I feel like I have to go do this course again. Regretting a little that I didn't sign up for next year, but maybe again in 2012 :)

  • Comments: This was a GREAT experiance and am hoping on going for number 2 either next year or 2012 or both!!..I am thrilled I got to do this race with 2 of my very dearest friends Smoke and Mavy..their support is inmeasurable in all aspects of my life. I will never be able to thank either of them enough..also cant forget to mention the other BTers there..Joshy, Colin, Pam, so fun to have a crowd of people to do this with. And great that my kids could be there too..although think they were more looking foward to the vaca to the Canyon after...Also a big shout out to the many at home who have cheered me on from start to the finish of this adventure; I was surprised by some of the people that actually took an interest in it!..Made for a very special first IM!

  • Comments: Completing Ironman was a life-changing event. The Ironman training process boosted my confidence and increased discipline. I whine less about cold, pain and discomfort. After getting through the wind and rain at IMAZ, I can tackle almost any challenge thrown my way. But I also lost some meaningful relationships from the Ironman training. People who felt I talked too much about triathlon, that I was bragging about my new-found endurance or that I was putting them down decided not to talk to me anymore. And I stopped hanging around with people who don't value exercise or healthy lifestyles, so a few more friends dropped off the radar. I forged new friendships within the triathlon community, and I believe some of these friendships will endure past the dropoff in training now that Ironman is behind us. I am very lucky indeed to have a loving and supportive husband, good friends, and to have made it through Ironman with no injuries.

  • Comments: This race was a success for me, I finished! Thanks to my husband and boys for putting up with me all year. They never complained when I was gone to the gym morning and night. They picked me up from long runs and bike flats. They encouraged me when I was discouraged, they believed in me more than I believed in myself. They made sure I had great equipment, they wouldn't let me fail. They were all over the course to cheer me on, they are my strength.

  • Comments: 13 minutes and 33 seconds. It makes me a little nervous now. That was pretty close. But, I got the same finisher's medal that the folks who finished in 9 hours, and I am still an Ironman, forever. All in all it was an amazing experience. You really have to experience a WTC IM. There has been some bad publicity around some of their business moves lately, but their race execution was impeccable. For the most part, every event, from Thursday to Monday, was perfectly executed. The planning and logistics of an event like this must be mind blowing, yet it goes off without any major issues. The volunteers were beyond amazing. So much so, that I told Sara I am volunteering at Lake Placid next year. It should be mandatory to volunteer if you compete. These events would not happen with out them. From all the people at check-in to the themed water stops on the bike and the run. The wetsuit strippers. the nice lady who rubbed suntan lotion on my face out of T1, the kids in the middle

  • Comments: Bill’s 2010 IMAZ Race Report NOV 21 2010 Pre Race: Woke at 0200 and drank Ensure for about 250 calories, slept better than usual. This week was very stress free, maybe we’re getting better at these races. We did the only before race swim the day before and decided not to wear our new booties as the water wasn’t that cold. Around 0400 I had another Ensure and felt relaxed and ready to race. No rain at this point and wasn’t too cold while wearing the wetsuit. Swim: 1:32:56 – 2:26/100m Water temp was 61 deg. Got into the water and stayed near Jen while moving up closer to the front. (Maybe too close). At the start I moved with the pack but when we passed under the first bridge it forced everyone to swim together and it turned into water rugby. I lost my rhythm and had to regroup while swimming breast stroke and getting my goggles back on. (they leaked for the rest of the race but it didn’t really bother me much). The turnaround went fine but on the way back the wind had picked up and

  • Comments: I plan on this being my last IM for a while. I have a lot going on next year and don't know how the calendar will play out so I wont commit. Perhaps I'll come back to IM AZ for a re-match... Perhaps I'll even get to race in an IM in decent weather. This is 3 in a row with crappy weather! Now it's time to get my mountainbike out and have some fun. I am also gonna start P90X in January and try and get back some muscle tone which has been canibalized by all of the IM stuff.... Thank you to all of the volunteers and spectators who helped make this all a great day.

  • Comments: Despite the cost, WTC knows how to put on a spectacular race. No detail is forgotten. More importantly, the ability to race with Brad and our friends is absolutely priceless. We all had great days out there which made everything a little sweeter. As you're out on the IM course, you have a lot of time to think and reflect. Before going into the race, I questioned whether or not I really wanted to continue to do the IM distance. And during the race, I decided that the answer is yes. This was an interesting season. Doing a late IM adds some new challenges with training. I was also self-coached from the end of April through the end of July. Since the beginning of August, I was working with Kim and can remember our first meetings where I got the first 2 weeks, and freaking out at the volume and intensity. I learned so much about myself during my training from August through race day. I realized I am stronger than I think and can endure more than I think. I have never worked

  • Comments: The only problem I had with this race was the weather. I think the water had even been in the high 60s to low 70s, and there had been milder winds, I might have done dramatically better. A lot of time was wasted in transition, at least 30 minutes, and probably lost 30-45 minutes obetween the bike and the run. The swim I can't say I would have swum faster, although my half times would suggest I might do 5-10 minutes faster if there had been wave starts, or I didn't have a panic attack :)

  • Comments: Again, a great race put on my WTC. I pretty much covered it in my report, but I need to train harder is all. If I want to take my race and body to a new plac I need to train to be able to do that. In the mean time I am stepping down for shorter races next year to learn to push the pace. My A race will be IM CA 70.3 on my birthday. We'll see what happens after that. right at 34 min slower than last year...not bad considering the conditions and the flats...but for me...I need to learn to push harder and go for it. I have completed twice now...it is no longer unknown. 13 hrs is my "safe time". going under 12 will take more.

  • Comments: Its really crazy writing this race report and thinking about how much my life has changed since I committed myself to becoming an Ironman and living the triathlon lifestyle. I just want to thank all my family and friends for helping me make this possible. I couldn't have done it without you! I didn't believe it when I heard it before, but the hardest part of doing an Ironman really is getting to the starting line. Getting hit by the car really threw me for a loop physically and even more mentally. However, I just stayed positive as I could and knew it was all just going to be part of my journey. I'll end my report with the slogan on the front of an Ironman t-shirt I got for my Mom after the race; Anything is Possible!!!! :)

  • Comments: I signed up for IMAZ while deployed to Afghanistan. It was a rough deployment. I came home in June, went on leave for a month, and started training in mid July. The training was a great stress relief and "wind down" from the deployment. With that said, I had high expectation for myself, but going from no S/B/R for over a year, then going straight to IM distance in 4.5 months might have been a little much. With that said, I gained a great amount of knowledge for racing at this distance. I can now take this fitness/knowledge and build for my next IM. - I really hope to come back to IMAZ in the future - maybe 2012???

  • Comments: Awesome event, obviously. Thanks to everyone who was out there cheering. I saw Elliot, Kim, Mel, Will, Dean, Kerri, Tanya, Jerry, Sally, Bobby, Becca, Todd. I heard Tom stripping his heart out. I'm sure there are others I left out. Also, sorry for the racial slurs, Elliot. That was uncalled for, but you deserved it.

  • Comments: I stuck to my plan (as best I could with having to account for an unforeseen bout of flu/cold) and bettered my time from CdA by 26+ mins (more if not for that effing flat tire!). I have no complaints about this race/my performance. More experience, and more lessons learned, which I will incorporate and put to use at IMCdA and IMAZ 2011. On the random thoughts side - I love PowerBar Chocolate Gel. Discovered it at the aid stations on the run course and for me, from this point forward, it will be my preferred gel. Not only does it not taste like gel, it actually tastes like liquid fudge, which is a very nice thing when you're 20 miles into an IM marathon! IMAZ, despite the sh!t weather was a fantastic race. Can't say enough about the volunteers/organization of this race. Despite all the ill-will towards the WTC by some folks, in my opinion, they are the high-bar for large-race logistics and organization. The finish line at a WTC 140.6 is something that every triathlete should

  • Comments: Course was great but the weather made it bad for me. The bike destroyed me. How I finished the bike I do not no. I am not sure what kept me going. I was OK with a DNF but I kept going. I am sure I missed a few things here. It was challenging for me this day. Swim hurt, bike hurt more that I can describe but the run made up for it and all in all, I had a fun race!

  • Comments: Thanks to ALL my friends for spectating and volunteering. It was nice to meet Colin (hockeyhands). We got a ride in together before the race... and his dad and him took me out to breakfast the morning after the race. I'm sure we will meet up again at a future race and he'll be a strong contender in our age group. Special thanks to Dean and Bobby for spectating ALL day long. It was was cool to see Sally (my arch nemesis), Becca, and Tanya at transition... and my coach and other teammates for encouraging me throughout the day. Also, all the BTers yelling my name, holding up signs, and taking pictures... it was a very special day for me. I wish I signed for IMAZ 2011, but I'm out of money :(
