  • Comments: Overall a great first HIM experience. The lake is one of the nicest I have ever seen in NC. Since this was my first 70.3, I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I thought everything went off without a hitch. Although not a "great" race for me, I am totally happy with my overall performance. Finished in the top 30% of my AG which qualified me for the Halfmax Championship which I unfortunately can't do because it is the week before the Chicago Marathon. My first thought after finishing was there would be no 140.6 plans for 2011. Maybe 2012 though ;-) Also go to meet a few other BT members before and after the race!

  • Comments: I am really happy for my first Half Iron race. I stayed under my goal of 6 hours by 10 minutes. I really need to race as Master Clydesdale, because I would place a lot better.

  • Comments: Good race, mentally tough due to a boring bike course and the crappy run. The lake is really beautiful especially in the morning before everything starts. The race shirt was kinda crappy, it was red and hard to read the writing, I would have loved a nice blue/green/grey shirt to match the serenity of the lake :) Though the socks were better then Pinehurst...such a diva I am!

  • Comments: This was my 2nd HIM and my first attempt in the wind and heat of White Lake. I'll know better what to expect next year and , hopefully, won't make the same mistakes again! Race time: 5:50:15 (plus 2:00 penalty...argh!)

  • Comments: This race lived up to the billing. It was well orgainized and well orchistrated. It would have recieved a 5 except I think that the discription of the roads for the bike was a little optimistic. This was my first Half Iorn, but will not be my last and I would like to make this an annual event.

  • Comments: This would be an awesome venue if you ever want to race an HIM for speed. This is a fast course. I was proud of myself for not doing anything stupid and not letting my racing ego get the best of me. I did exactly what my coach wanted me to do on the run.

  • Comments: I'm disappointed with the last part of the bike & my run. My overall bike time was in line with what I wanted, but I should have been able to maintain that power through the end of the bike to take off another couple or three minutes. The run is still where i give away a lot of time, even when I'm not puking. The only time I pass anybody is when they're melting down. No doubt my nutritional issues played a big part in this. The infinit experiment is over for me and I'm going back to carbopro for calories b/c I've used it in a lot of races an never once had GI issues, even in ironman. I should have just stuck with that & not experimented this year, I guess. Because I stopped taking in so much fluid on the bike (and because I did not pee from 7 in the morning until about 2:30 that afternoon) I feel like I was probably pretty dehydrated, even though I took a lot of water in on the run, so that wouldn't have helped either.

  • Comments: When I checked the preliminary results I looked at the sheets wrong and thought I was 9th out of 24 in the MC group. I was disipointed but decided to stick around for the awards. Well I'm glad I did because when they finally called the Master Clyds class for third place they gave the time first and I said to myself "hey that's my time", than said my name "hey that's my name!" It was a complete surprise.

  • Comments: I did not have the issues others did with water stations on the bike except for having to dodge people stopping to get water. One of the blessings of carrying all your nutrition on the bike.

  • Comments: SetUp always puts on top notch events, this was no exception. The run aid stations were stellar. There wasn't much left in the way of post race food by the time I got done but that would be my only complaint.

  • Comments: Overall, this was a fantastic race! Would love to do it again and actually run the last leg. Great weather, environment, volunteers, aid stations. Had a wonderful 1st half ironman experience. I didn't finish fast, but I finished!

  • Comments: The run course was awful. This was the worst I have seen in my limited experience. To have all the runners on the shoulder of the road going both directions is not good. It makes it very difficult to pass and stay in the rules of the race which said that the participants were not allowed to enter the lanes of traffic. The shoulders in places were 2 feet wide. Not cool. Other than that it was a great event and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Comments: Good organization at the transitions, start and finish. Water stations during the bike portion were horrible. Run course is not good to say the least. Post race grub (hot dogs and red beans with rice) was below average, but at least there was plenty of food.

  • Comments: Despite my challenges, I felt like I was ready for this race. Even during the run, my limiting factor wasn't my cardio as much as it was battling the heat and electrolyte imbalances. I got thru the bike and swim in Zone 2 heart rates or below. I felt pretty good when I finished...much better than I expected. Ready for the next one!!

  • Comments: I gave it everything I had. I can find a hundred different ways to make up 14 seconds, but in the end I didn't. It was a solid effort and I still feel it on Monday. As a marker of the conditions consider that 5:00:13 would have only been good for 101st overall last year and that was with a smaller field than this year. 55th overall (the above numbers are men only and one woman was faster) and 7th in my AG is a very strong result.

  • Comments: This is by far to best race I have done so far. I really loved the FFA site, White Lake itself and the fact that it's pretty darn flat. I'm really glad that I did this race. My overall goal was 6 hours, so I only missed it by 5mins. Big shout-out to Alice (love2tri)for not letting me back out of this one. We all missed you out there.

  • Comments: I will be back. I will break 5:30. I will be a stronger swimmer, and I will not make the same mistakes on the bike that caused the run to suffer.
