  • Comments: REPLACE THE STUPID TIMER CHIP STRAP!! I PR'ed by 16 min. from last year!! Fun things heard during the race: 1). What's with the carrot? 2). What's that? A donkey? 3). Donnawiz, coming from behind on the bike to pass me - "I see a carrot. I'm going to catch the carrot". That was funny. 4). The photographer, while going up the hill on the 2nd lap - "So, what is it about the donkey? I saw a number of them." 5). "EEEAAAWWW!!!" - the Donks on the course. 6). Some lady in a group of people on a corner by mile 2 and change, while coming around on the 2nd lap, "What is that supposed to be?", to which they didn't think I heard and to which I yelled out without turning back "IT'S A DONKEY!!". Then the group started laughing. 7). From Craig, as I was coming towards the "Donkey corral" near the finish, in his bullhorn, "... Phil Gillett ". (Sorry, Craig, I was listening, but didn't catch it very well.) 8). Chris (TriDDS) and Jean, on the

  • Comments: This is a very good race. My only gripe was that many of the roads are extremely bumpy. Saw a lot of bottles on the roads. The food this year was better than last. It is a great venue on a Great Lake. The run course is fun b/c you get to see everyone so often, so no time for dogging it. Wish it had a few more hills to separate out the packs, or maybe the marshalls should spend more time on the packs? Not sure. I do love it and have heard that it is going 70.3 next year.

  • Comments: This was a great race. It was very well organized and supported. The course was great with some great views on the swim and run portion. The race conditions were perfect - 65-70 degrees and overcast with no wind. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Overall very happy with my results. I was shooting for 5:15 and ended up at 4:51.

  • Comments: First HIM, and it was an awesome race. Plan on doing this again, no doubt. Had a blast with all the donkeys. Been training for this puppy since about January and before. Since last winter, ive lost about 40lbs training for this. Been a great experience going through this and changed a lot for the better throughout the months. No doubt about it, i am addicted to this sport. So many times you wanna say "thats it, why the hell am i doing this" and as soon as you see that finish, every pain and thought goes away! Owe a lot to Theresa for so much support through this, and to schmize (my coach) who helped me the whole way with training plans and game time decisions. He helped me pretty much do the right things to achieve my goals, and def did hit my goals. Been a great, take that back, a tremendous tri season so far. Before we know it IM 2011 will be here before i know it!!

  • Comments: I think that something could be done to get the swim course adjusted so that it is more accurate to our actual abilities! Overall I was very happy with this race. It was my second tri and my first half ironman distance event. I'm already planning my tri training schedule for next spring, and am excited to start hitting it a lot harder than I did this cycle.

  • Comments: I am still shocked at this result. Was totally not expecting to beat last year's results. I really have not trained as much as I should have, volume was down, but maybe I'm a better racer than I give myself credit for. I don't take anything for granted and my expectations were low. Maybe that helped, I didn't have as much anxious energy as last year. I was calm and had a blast. A special thanks to the Bauer's and Vande Berg's for toting me around for the weekend. You guys are great. To all the other BT/Donkai, you guys are a great group, glad to have met you all and thanks for all the cheering and support, it really means a lot.

  • Comments: I absolutely love this race. The support this year from the donkai group and other BTers was unbelieveable. I felt like a superstar coming down that finishers chute. A huge thank you to all the support crew and jockstrappers. And I can't say enough about the love of my life...Craig (firstnet911) Thank you for your continued support and ability to put up with me on my journey toward IM Wisconsin in September. I too am proud of you and amazed at your speedy recovery! LU! Also thank you for the 200+ pictures that he took that day of everyone. Some really great shots. My goal was to go sub 6!! PR FOR ME ON THIS RACE BY 19 MIN!!!

  • Comments: I could not ask for more from a race. The only downside had nothing to do with the organizers and volunteers. I was unfamiliar with the race and did not know I would need someone to accompany me to the swim start. When I checked the swim start lost and found, I got my flip flops, but someone must have liked my warm-up pants.

  • Comments: As always, this was an extremely well-run race, even if the post-race meal really kind of sucks (PB & J, BBQ and... BEANS? Are you serious... BEANS?!! That's like intestinal distress with sauce!) Events started on time, tons of volunteers and lots of well-placed Aid Stations. Now if they could just keep all those Illinois people out...

  • Comments: Crossed the finish line and didn't see a race clock anywhere. Grabbed some water to rinse my head and stop the salt stinging my eyes. After that I asked a volunteer what time it was. 12:06! Oh boy. On the dot 5 hours since my 7:06 wave start. Did I make it under the line? Didn't know. Unless his watch was slow I was at least 5 flat. Went to transition to grab Recoverite and then back to the Donkey cheering section to say thanks and wait for Lori to come in. She was having a solid race too so excited to see how she did. After she came in we went over to the tri wis tent and hung out there. Got some pizza, pulled pork, beans, fruit, coke. Gooooood. Checked results. Confirmed sub 5. Celebrated. Lori went 5:21, totally awesome too! PR'd every single segment. 10 minutes for the swim, 6 seconds for T1, ten minutes for the bike, 20 seconds for T2, 15 minutes for the run. Overall 34 minute PR. That's solid! Great race. Weather (and a swim course that was likely

  • Comments: The Volunteers were the best I have ever seen - there were lots of them and they knew what they were doing - even the kids. Aid station were plentiful. Event was on time and run smoothly minus the short swim course. Now I need to devise a training plan to beat that time - ahh the next challenge!

  • Comments: I learned a few things from this race: 1) Body glide on the back of the neck and inside my swimsuit really help prevent chafing. 2) My swim is and probably always will be my strongest area. 3) I really need to improve on my bike. I have been riding a bike since I was about 5 years old, but only riding to race for about 1 1/2 years now. 4) I either have to really figure out how to get into my shoes while riding or give up on that and put them on before I mount the bike. 5) I should practice drinking while running instead of having to walk each time I take water. 6) I seem to work better with gel packets than the sportbeans. I think the sport beans were good to get something more solid in my stomach, but the gel gave me much more energy. This was a great race. I beat the time I wanted by 17 minutes. This was my first 1/2 Ironman so I really didn't know what to expect. The competition was very tough as you can see by my rankings but I am happy with my times. I was thinking

  • Comments: Great to see all the donkeys, Tri-WI and RACC guys. I PR'd this distance by 22 minutes, so I'm really happy with that. I didn't stop to stand during the swim, had my first 20 mph bike average. Funny thing, the run, which I guess would/should usually be, my strongest part was my weakest. Overall, really happy with this race.... but doing this twice in 8 weeks? not so sure, we'll see how it goes... congrats to all the donkeys, and to AJOTTO for a podium finish! Great to see the Illinois contingency (Schmize and Whizz), and meeting coredump. Have I said that I REALLY like the triathlon sub-culture? Not sure if it's for the racing, the drinking beer, or the good people that are in it.. Thanks for reading..

  • Comments: This was a great race. It seems like each race I do is better organized. There was great support, a good number of aid stations and good volunteers. The commmunity really came out to cheer as well, which really helped keep you moving. The start was delayed due to fog. When we finally started it was still foggy. I just wish we could have started that hour earlier. It would have made the run easier because some of it would have been before it got so hot. If I decid to do another HIM I will definitely consider this one again. During the run yesterday I swore I would never do this again. However, today I am already looking at ways I could have shaved off more time.
