  • Comments: While I feel a little bummed about the performance I'm really glad I did this race. This was my 3rd triathlon and of course it was just fun to be with other people doing what we love to do. I knew there would be some challenges with the altitude and I hadn't trained as hard as I have before...on the bright side...I have a time to beat for next year.

  • Comments: I did 2 other triathlons before this, a sprint in 2004 & a half-iron in 2005. Looking back I don't think I was ready to take on the half-iron in 2005; I walked most of the run & finished in 7:02. Over the past 4 years I have done 5 marathons and have seen my running improve. I decided to try another triathlon and starting training in May 2009. I was happy I was able to complete this race well. :)

  • Comments: This race hurt. It hurt a lot more than Kansas, and I was 8 seconds slower here. But here's the weird thing... my sense of accomplishment, my satisfaction with the performance, and just the overall feeling I get from this race is higher than any previous HIM/70.3 I think it's because I was hurting and wanted to hurt more. I wanted to know that when I finished I gave everything I could possibly give. That despite placings, pr's, or long-time rivals I was able to push myself to a level that's more spiritual than it is physical. Sounds cheeseball but I'm writing this 2 days later and still feel the same way. I'm sad to see Barry is not putting this race on next year. If you've read any of my previous race reports I always talked about this race or that race being in my top 5 or top 10. 5430 Long Course is my #1 favorite race and now it's gone :( Oh well I still got the Pikes Peak Marathon this weekend! See you guys at 14,00 feet :)

  • Comments: PR for me by 17 minutes. Very good race. Super fast course. Makes me think I could break 5 hours on a faster course like something in Florida.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: This was a huge accomplishment for me. Last year I won an age group award. This year I struggled to complete the course. We never know what race day will bring. I went into that dark place on the run where I questioned why I was even doing this. But I know why I do it. We have days where we shine and we have days when it's not our turn. I was strong. I stuck with my plan. I finished. Something stirred up my allergies last week and they were still all whacky. I blew the most awesome snot rockets out there. My mother would be so proud! I must take a moment to apologize to the 1000+ racers who passed me on the bike. When I put my tri shorts on I realized they were quite thin in the back. I'm sure the view was less than pleasant. I promise to buy a new pair for next season.

  • Comments: This was the final 5430 race. Next year it will be an M Dot event. I don't think this is good. I guarantee it will be the end of the free beer tent. That tent has been one of my favorite summer time things to do for the past 4 years.

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: I was disappointed that the food, massage tent, and many other expo tents were gone or being packed up when I finished. I was not even the last one to cross the finish line. There were still people coming in after I had showered. It seemed rude to me. Otherwise, I feel good that I did the entire race as I really wanted to DNF after the first run loop. And somehow, it was a PR. Well, just because my only other 70.3 was at a time of the month where I needed many porta potty stops... I'm glad I'm getting all these mistakes out of the way now. I would hate to make them when my kids are off to college, I don't work full time, or whatever circumstances change to give me the time to train to be competitive. I would hate to put all that training in and then have something like my diet screw it all up if I had a chance of going to the podium!

  • Comments: I really enjoyed this event and it was a great introduction to the 70.3 distance for me. I plan on racing again at this distance and being more competitive. I did the entire 5430 series this year and all of the events are exceedingly well run and organised.

  • Comments: this was my first time doing 5430 1/2. It is well organized and well supported and is a fun event. Not sure if i will be doing it again as it takes up a good part of my weekend between packet pick-up on Saturday and then the race on Sunday. maybe next year IM will decide to give the option of mailing the packets (for a fee).

  • Comments: This was the worst I've finished in standings in any race I've ever done -- tough tough competition!!! So glad I did the series since Ironman bought it and Barry and Jodee won't be running it next year. I like this race best of the series because people tend to stay longer afterwards. Great hanging w/ Michelle and Mark and Richard in the beer tent. Great beer and pizza! Great schwag and I won some Tyr Nest Pro goggles I've been wanting.

  • Comments: Again 4 instead of 5 because they need to have more options for packet pickup instead of requiring 1300 people to drive to the venue on the day before the race while claiming to be so environmentally friendly that they have no trash cans and they even ask you on their website to not print the race instructions in order to save trees. I don't like hypocrties.

  • Comments: As always, it's fun to race in your backyard with lots of friends. There are a handful of people I "know" that I only see at races so it's always fun to see them. The 5430 Series is always well-run and has a good, local feel so hopefully it will continue on that way next year with new ownership.

  • Comments: Overall I'm still VERY happy with a new PR for a 70.3! I just feel like I'm very capable of breaking 5 hours but loose it on the run... I'm workin' on it! Plus, I did this race with TEAM IN TRAING and I'm very happy that I did this race in honor of my father who died back in 02' and also in honor for all of those who are battling blood cancers! I also have made a ton of new friends and raised money for cancer research! That feels really good! :)

  • Comments: 20+ minute PR. Best triathlon yet- felt great entire time. I felt good during the swim but was surprised at how slow I was!
