  • Comments: Awsome first Ironman. Surprised at how well I did. I had some left at end. Could have picked up pace last 3 miles, but didn't want to chance screwing up and I knew I had a sub-12 hour race in the bag.

  • Comments: I can't lie and say I'm happy with this race. I CAN say I am happy to have shared the day with so many team mates and friends, many of whom were first time IM racers. This race was weird in so many ways for me. My two main training partners were not excited to race, and I didn't even get to start with them this long day (we've started almost every tri together for 2 years!), I stayed with Endurance Sports Travel a mile from most of my team, and it was good and bad...good because I got to meet Kona legend Ken Glah (he made my pancakes!) and some really cool ladies, bad because I was so removed from my friends physically and emotionally. It was great to be able to offer support to first timers Joe beforehand, and Annelise and Kevin on the course, bad because I was NOT performing to my fitness potential and goals. I was BLESSED to be able to see my 55 year old teammate who has been dealing with her husbands cancer throughout this journey cross in 17:06:xx. Such an inspiration! Bummed

  • Comments: So I sit here fingering the scrape on my forehead where my goggles gouged me getting kicked on the swim saturday, digesting the events of the weekend and trying to figure out where it went so wrong. Trying to find the words adequate to describe all the feelings, I realize that finishing or not finishing does not diminish me or make me any larger or smaller than if I had never raced. My friends and family still love me and all the messages I would have had of congratulations are instead those of you still rock etc etc. I am still and will always be a 5 time ironman regardless as to weather or not I choose to continue on in this sport at this or any other distance and it has never defined me as a person its just something I happen to do. Its been a rough few years. Its been a rough few years probably dating back to 2007. It was a professional mess. My partner was left me high and dry with too many employees and in a huge financial pit of despair I am still digging out of. I had

  • Comments: IMFL is a great race. Kudos to all the volunteers and the city of PCB for doing such a great job. The crowd support along the run course was also amazing! Though, seeing dudes on roller skates wearing speedos, a chick in leather with a whip and an old Elvis dude dancing in the middle of the run course isn't your typical tri crowd support, but they were having fun and it made me laugh. You gotta love PCB and IMFL!

  • Comments: It's not the training, the race, the plan, failure to abide by the plan... its all of it. You test yourself against yourself. And at the end of the day you're a better person because of it. Ironman

  • Comments: Loved this race. The atmosphere at a big IM event was as good or even better than described. Sure they are expensive, but it was totally worth it in my opinion.

  • Comments: PERFECT place to complete your first Ironman. GREAT location, AWESOME volunteers, Fantastic support throughout including the community. So many friendly people that I had never met before. Transition / swag bag is better than the bag I was using in my races and I love it. The medal was all I came for and it was WORTH IT!! One and done folks - been there, done that! I'll likely keep hitting the HIM distance until I finally have a solid race and that won't be until 2014 at Oilman - for now a long off season and then back to the sprints.

  • Comments: Ironman Florida is an Ironman designed for the novice Ironman, this doesn't make it easy anyway. The challenge in this course is demanding work from the same muscles non stop for a long time. If well executed, IMFL is a PR course. I had tons of fun, pain, elation, agony, etc. The roller coaster in Ironman is not for the faint of heart.

  • Comments: I was very happy with my ability to keep my mind in the game and not let myself lose the mental game. I did have some rough physically spots but never felt let it defeat me mentally and it paid off with a great result. Thanks to the great volunteers and spectators that made my day great.

  • Comments: Very well organized with lots of support and spectators. Course was very good. Since it was so flat, drafting was a problem on the bike since everyone was so spread out - i.e. no hills to break up the pack. I planned to sign-up for 2013 but it filled-up in around 5 minutes and I got on the computer too late.

  • Comments: I had a great time. The volunteers were amazing. I loved it. I have wanted to be an Ironman since 1982 (YUP - saw Julie Moss in 1982 on Wide World of Sports!), and now I AM AN IRONMAN. Perfect. Amazing. Wonderful. See my blog for more details: http://anfbaker.blogspot.com/2012/11/ironman-florida-2012-race-repo...

  • Comments: Crossing the mat at the end was an awesome experience. Hearing that I was an Ironman was great but having my wife and son working as catchers to share in the moment was huge!! To see the look on there faces crossing the line one hour and forty minutes earlier than they were expecting me made for a memory I'll never forget.

  • Comments: What a great race. Signed up for 2012 and I’m glad I did. Great volunteer support all around the course. Swim was great, bike was a bit slower than I needed to be but I didn’t know and the run was, for me, fabulous. I’ll take a sub 5 hour marathon in an IM any day. My transition times were terrible but I can fix that. Not sure I’ll do much different for next year. Push the bike a little faster on the bike and that’s about it.

  • Comments: Great race Well organized and many small but good improvement over last year Aid stations and volunteers were super as were the fans and other athletes. Doing this race with good friends and new friends, with my husband out there supporting me, knowing BT friends world wide was pulling for me is precious. Thank you everyone for your support and inspiration. My hope is to continue in the multisport lifestyles for years to come. In what form I will participate will depend on how I recover from surgery tomorrow.

  • Comments: (!!!This is my final journal entry from the day after the race!!!) Its 5 am. The Day After. Its never felt so good to hurt so bad. My feet and legs and neck and tummy all feel horrid. My soul feels like I won the lottery. If you are a first timer you probably are doing what I did..pouring over race reports looking for some nugget that says you will finish. My advice which was gained from four years of tris and being coached by good coaches boils down to two things... 1. Have a plan for what you will do, wear and eat race day and practice it over and over like a dress rehersal. Then dont change it race day as if finishing depends on it because it does. 2. Race day ride the bike as slow as you ever have even if you are lance armstrong. Today feels like the first day of a new life. Today I am someone different. I am a success story in my own pathetic little way. I owe it to so many people to thank them. All I can feel is happiness and pride. I wonder what my life will

  • Comments: I would love to thank my husband Kevin, for being such a wonderfulhusband and supporter because he was out there doing alot of the training with Dotti and I for no glory. My girls let me be a slacker Mom almost all summer so I could go train and for that I am grateful. All I can say is that without Dotti Porter talking me into doing this race and doing almost all of our training together, I would not have beat my goal time by 40 min. This is something that I had said I would NEVER DO. So glad that I did!!! Loved all the training, the race was amazing, the weather almost perfect. Who could ask for more? I will do this again!!!

  • Comments: Having put items into specific Ziploc bags ahead of time is a great idea. I know it helped the organizational needs, and I know now that it will speed up transition times, if I am so inclined. Thanks to KathyG, Socks and Bar92 (Briana) for reminding me to do this! I think the biggest factors for me were: 1) people said it many times, but - Have plan A, and plan B, and plan C. I think it is so important to the success of the effort that you remain flexible. Granted, I was not one of those trying to qualify for any podium positions, but knowing what to change in order to reach my goal was key; 2) if you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it! And PLAN to enjoy it! - Yes, people complained about the wind on the bike, and even though I was worried the night before about the water, I was still going to give it my best. There were so many people who really looked like they were not enjoying the race, and I really felt bad for them… guess it is because I know what I have gone through to get here, and maybe
