  • Comments: Nice run course. Swim and bike not so much. I hate calm protected swims. Get out in the ocean with big surf so we can really see which triathletes are good swimmers. The race takes the weak way out with choosing not to race in the ocean but in the protected little bay. Bike was super lame but did like the challenge of the constant up-down. Overall I think this was my least favorite of the races I have done. It is local and a cheap entry fee so you can't really go wrong but I'd rather save my race energy for a different course and venue. Oh ya and do not ever buy a QROO with a break-away zipper system. Total joke.

  • Comments: Olympic Distance PR! (first Oly, so that was predictable, but still ya gotta brag when you can). As others have commented, very organized and well-run race, the Navy & Marine volunteers were great. A little odd being called "sir" at all the fluid stations, I don't know if it's because I look like an officer (I am, retired Navy) or if they just called everybody that just to be safe. Good course. One observation (not a critique, just an observation), this race doesn't have very many sponsors, there's no expo, and it's relatively schwag-free. There wasn't much at all in the finish area other than a massage tent. Only food offered was oranges, bananas & Gatorade, and a paid snack bar. If you're a schwag-hound this may not be for you, but particularly considering the low entry fee (and free parking), I'm happy to buy my own sports drinks & mini Clif bars.

  • Comments: For the money ($70) this is the best Oly in town. I will continue to do this race as long as they let me. Walking back to the car, some Marines walked by and said "thanks for having this race today." Hell, they are the ones we should be thanking.

  • Comments: This is a great PR race site. If you train a bit on hills with your bike you will definitely get a great OLY time. I had a blast and look forward to doing it again next year.

  • Comments: The Marines run a great race. My 2nd event at Camp Pendleton....first was the Mud Run, which I admit is tough to beat. The volunteers for the Mud Run are definitely more excited about it than the triathlon, but the boys on the bike on Stuart Mesa were a total hoot and I was so glad they were out there, sexist comments and all! I loved that it was so well organized, the music was good, and the venue was easy to get around. Even my Sherpa was able to maneuver around without getting lost or confused......it's hard for a newbie spectator sometimes. The field was very competitive, but I think that is one of the lures of this race. It's not every day you get to race with such talented athletes. Gives you more motivation to keep training!

  • Comments: Great race for my first Olympic distance. It sets a good baseline to work from. I am very happy to have this race under my belt.
