  • Comments: This is a very satisfying race for me, and not just because I won. The last few months have been tough, getting injured so seriously and not knowing when, or even if, I'll recover. I was in denial at first, then angry, then sad. What's the point of training, I had kept asking myself. Somehow I convinced myself to shoot for one little tri before the end of the season, not win, just to complete, even though this is a hugh step down from competing at the Worlds just 3 mth ago. When I got back in the pool last month, I couldn't even lift my arm out of the water. So I was ecstatic to complete the swim today, even though this was easily the slowest swim ever in my life. And to come through with a first place finish - a small race, but a hugh victory as I finally stopped feeling sorry for myself. Perhaps this win will keep me motivated through the winter into next season as I continue on this long road to recovery. • Comments: Race was fun. The event was well organized, however the km markings on the run were horribly placed. One km my split time was 6 min/km the next km my split time was 4 m/km! Great warm up for the season though.

  • Comments: Next time don't show up late and wait 20 minutes in the wrong line and don't forget to get numbers drawn on you and don't forget to get a chip. Test out your pumping tire skills beforehand because the tire nozzle kept bursting off front tire... my pump or I wasn't strong enough to fully pump back tire, got help from a bike person. I forgot to lay out my bike shorts for the first transition cause of the rush. No time to warm up.

  • Comments: I was not ready for a triathlon. 5 months ago I couldn't run 2km, or swim 50m. I am going to do it again next year with a vengeance though and kick the water's ass. :D

  • Comments: Happy with bike and run. Awful swim, but I got through it. Somewhere on BT, it says - DFL >>> DNF >>> DNS, which means "Dead Frxxxing Last" is WAY better than "Did Not Finish" is WAY better than "Did Not Start". I'm not even DFL on the swim. Before race, some good looking muscular guy with a spiffy bike yelled "Patricia". I turned around and had no idea who the guy was. He said, it's "Mike Cheliak". Mike has been the official photographer for the HSBC Tri Series for many years. He's the best race photographer, takes a lot of pride in his work and his pics are always head and shoulders above any race photographer out there (see my Misc tri album / Angus Glen RR). He was very overweight / obese. But today, he's 55 lbs less than last year, and somehow he looks taller too, which is why I can't recognize him. He's trained all winter and has obviously worked hard as he looks absolutely marvelous. He's making his Du debut. He ended up crossing the finish line just behind me and I gave him

  • Comments: Well, I felt like it was a lousy race and still placed 25th. Great venue, great organization and I decided to see if I could do better the next day - race again!
