  • Comments: BBSC, as always, did a great job with the race. Amenities were nice, events were organized, and the venue is spectacular. Even though it is a tough, tough course, this is one of my favorite events.

  • Comments: If you are not from this region, take your PR time and add 1 hour. The dry desert and 2000' climb on the bike will take the run out of your legs. The run is downhill until the turn around. Then it is a long way back if you are overheating like I was. Overall this is a well organized race. Friendly people are everywhere. I'm happy that I survived and it was only 75 degrees. If you are from a cool climate, arrive a few days early to acclimate.

  • Comments: Pumpkinman is a great way to cap off a year of racing. This year they seemed a bit light on volunteers in a couple spots, but it was still a great race.

  • Comments: Don't expect any PRs due to hills and transtion areas, but it is a fun race. T1 was way over crowded (really hard to find a spot even showing up an hour before my wave started). T1 is also very long and on a rough road, but that seems out of necessity due the venue. The volunteers were good. The course was well marked, though I saw a couple of people doing the sprint distance that missed their turn-around on the run. Post-race was pretty good and there were a lot of people out cheering at the finish line. Overall it was a fun race.

  • Comments: This would have easily been a 5 star race. The hang up was that they told us they would bring the bag from T1 to T2, which they did. But I waited almost an hour for my bag to show up. Then there was more waiting while the truck was unloaded and they had to sort through hundreds of bags. I was one of the few to actually help the volunteers unload the truck while everyone else watched us and bitched about not having their bag Pictures: http://www.zazoosh.com/members/viewGallery/6062

  • Comments: I know running a race is hard work and people want everything done their way. For me, the race director/company did a good job. I heard things like gates did not open for bike riders to go through and I guess some bikers had to ride around and do extra miles. There was no volunteer to direct riders at the sprint turnaround, which resulted in riders doing extra miles. And running out of water at aid stations, though it was only for a few minutes. I had two issues – packet pick up and host hotel. Hour an a half to complete packet pick up - Really?? It was crazy to pick up your packet then drive to T1 and drive back to the hotel. I know we got discount at the host hotel, but get one that's close to T1 or have packet pick up at T1. I’m pretty sure no one was watching T1 as I could have went home with a lot of garmin watches.

  • Comments: I've done a few races now (10 triathlons just in 2011) so I am experienced enough to know that rarely does everything go your way on race day. Today - nothing went my way. My string of terrible luck approached absurdity. Still - it is my opinion that all races are good races as long as you can learn and grow as an athlete from the experience. I was especially humbled when talking to a fellow racer on the bus ride back to T1 who was ecstatic at his 4 hour finish time. I need to remember not to get so wrapped up in results and just enjoy the day.

  • Comments: This is a great race and well organized event. The finisher medal is a keeper. The t-shirt is ok. Great lunch for the racers, and some nice raffles (didn't win any). This race will be on the top of my list to do next season!!! I need to beat that hill.

  • Comments: I DEFINITELY want to do this race next year. It rates equally to IronGirl. So many good things I can say about this race. Although, I do wish they would CLOSE the TA when the Long Course is ready to go out for the swim. There was so many people milling about in the TA while they were on the swim. My swim wave was an hour later than them. So, they had to avoid a lot of people. The swim course could be slightly better because it was easy to just go under water and move to the "incoming" lane. I'm sure that more than one person did that. I nearly was going to do that, but then I would have to live with the guilt that I was cheating. It should have been a triangular course. Hopefully BBCSTRI will host it again. *cross fingers* (heard rumors that this was the last one they're hosting). I had many firsts in this race. First time that I swam with good size waves. First time I forgot something VERY important, hydration. First time that I ever felt like I really really really had to go

  • Comments: Pumpkinman is always my favorite race. Very well organized. Plenty of vendors. Great post race activites and finishes in a nice park in downtown Boulder City, close to shops, food, and the best brewery in Las Vegas, the Boulder Dam Brewery.

  • Comments: I had been looking forward to this race for close to a year. This course kicked my tail last year, and I wanted to go back and get through it with less difficulty. While I knew it wouldn't be easy, I at least wanted to hold my own. I have also been waiting all year to have a race where I improve everything across the board. I wanted to finally demonstrate to myself that I have really improved decisively in everything and that all of the work has paid off. I had expected that Nathan's would be that race, but it didn't work out. Pumpkinman was the race I have been waiting for. My overall time improved from 4:41:52 last year to 3:56:46 this year. My times improved for the swim, bike, and run. I finally had a day when everything came together, and I did it on the toughest course that I race. Not only were the physical and mental aspects improvements, but experience made a difference this year as well. I knew what to expect based on last year, and we were prepared for everything

  • Comments: If anyone tells you to do the Olympic at Pumpkinman, walk away slowly because they really aren't right mentally. The cool was actually seeing Chris "Macca" McCormick in my race. Yeah he was probably showered and on a plane home by the time I finished, but cool none the less.

  • Comments: I finished about where I was expecting to. My race prep was pretty bad because of some personal things going on in my life, but I'm glad I ran this race. It allowed me to cap my season by completing my season goal of an Olympic distance triathlon.

  • Overall course based on my ability: Too hard

  • Comments: Aside from the lack of aid stations in transition 1 and the bike course, the event was well organized. I should have brought more drinks to prepare for that possibility. The course was difficult, as I knew it would be. I would have to say that this event is the hardest thing that I have ever physically done, and will probably remain so until January when I plan to complete a marathon. I think in the end the course won, but at least it was by a decision and not a knockout - at least I finished the fight. The real star of the day was Jenna, who was all over that course, turning up to support me and keep me going. After being everywhere during the day to support me and motivate me, she saved her brightest moment for the end. After she snapped my picture coming around the last corner, she turned and outran me to the finish line. As she passed the line, she turned and snapped a picture - without lining it up or looking - while still in motion - of me crossing the line. Somehow, the

  • Comments: The best finishers medal! I'm not down with having two different transition areas. The bags with the swim stuff had to be collected and trekked over. because T1 was not set up in number order, it took a long time to sort all the bags. It was not horrible, just an inconvenience. I would certainly do this race again. It was well orgainzed, good communication leading up to the event itself and very easy changing from the OD to the sprint - no issues.
