Hey guys, just FYI I sent the race director some comments about last years swim, and they're bumping up the intervals to 15 seconds between swimmers instead of 10.  They're also incorporating "ghost" swimmers so some :30 blocks will be mixed in as well.  Should make the swim much more enjoyable and mostly eliminate the accordion effect.

What would help is if people just put in correct swim times.

Last year I saw people in the first 10-20 swimmers doing breast and back stroke 1/2 way through a 300M swim.

I'll be there again this year, hoping for a bit warmer and drier weather than last year.

I think that happens in all pool swims - it happened at Reston Sprint and 3Sports Tri, both of which draw out newbies, since they are very "local-friendly" races. And many newbs don't know how to figure out their times, or they GROSSLY overestimate.

That's the real underlying issue, if you're swimming anyway to train for it, why not just do a 300 yard time trial and see what you can do?  I would assume if you did that, your time wouldn't vary that much from race day.

I'm hoping it'll be warmer and drier than last year too, it was pretty miserable on the bike.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend.  Looks like weather should be nice, though race starts at 6:00am so not sure if we will actually get to see any of that warm weather during the race.

The pool should be a LOT clearer this time.   Brian has incorporated several great changes as mentioned above.   And the weather will be GORGEOUS!   I'll be at the finish line with my two little boys to cheer on my husband, who is racing tomorrow.  If, at the finish, you happen to see a tall blonde with two little blonde boys, that's me!  Come say HI!

Now that I think about it, I may not be at the finish... I may park us on the sidewalk just BEFORE the finish.  More fun that way.

I was there this morning to wish my wife well, and took the opportunity to help out and body mark some racers.

Saw two really fast local guys there volunteering, Craig Ellis and Brent Miller.  Fortunately for the field, they weren't racing.

Mike
Laura said you were hard at work today. I got there late so must have missed you. I got to meet Craig and Brent this morning. Super nice guys. Brent and I got to be "You better let them pass" swim monitors.

I saw a few that needed tips on calculating swim times. But in fareness there were also those who should have put faster times. I remember one individual who finished two min faster than their time. That is a big difference in 300 yards.

I wanted to give a shout out to Mark from Bicycle outfitters who raced after being talked into it on Saturday at packet pick-up and won 2nd in his age group. Woot. (but didn't have the best bike split?)

It's really a fun race, swim issues seemed to be minimal this year, good police support and volunteers.

Maybe need to market it a bit better next year, turnout seemed pretty small.

I had a lot of fun at this race, and I look forward to doing it again.  Special thanks goes out to the volunteers and organizers.  I saw some photographers taking pictures during the event, does anyone know when and where those photos will turn up?

That was a fun race!  Definitely a good confidence builder and a great experience.  Thanks for suggesting it, Tony!  Hopefully, it will get more attention and grow in the future.

For those that enjoyed this race the Taylor Love race which I added to the Race list a few days ago is the exact same course in September. It will be a bigger field since it is a fund raiser for Taylor Love.
