SWIM2LIVE - 2009-10-11 10:47 PM Yahooo, finished my first century, and even stopped in the middle for a rice and salad (vegetarian) meal, and then started up again.
Funniest thing is that I told my training partner that I didn't want to do Pumpkinman, cause I didn't feel ready for the climb out of Lake Mead and up to Boulder City. Imagine my surprise. AT least we didn't have to climb up to the water tower as well.
I prolly should have skipped the middle meal and gone right on up Alta, cause my legs stiffened up a bit and the Alta climb was tough.
I ate way to many bananas, but the Krispy Kreme doughnuts at Blue Diamond sure hit my sweet spot.
My biggest relief......no flat. I saw plenty of others, but so thankful not me...(prolly jinxed myself now)
Today (Sunday) I competed in the Senior Olympics in swimming. I was a little concerned about my next day recovery, but managed to take 4 first places out of my 4 events.
So now, the Rock and Roll marathon (26.2 miles) on December 6, and then next year put them all together for Silverman.
I continued through at the half-way point as it was still early for the lunch. Was working on the event as an IMAZ training ride. The Alta climb was long but sure was a great way to finish the event with the downhill. I saw those Krispy Cremes and they looked sooooo good but I managed to skip them. Heck of a thing to put at an aid station, though
Almost as mean as handing out twinkies to fellow competitors during an race.
Good luck in the marathon. My wife is running the event this year as well. Course looks a lot more fun than several years ago when it was a straight run up from Jean. Looks like you'll be running up a good portion of Alta during the event. At least you've got experience on it now.
I also enjoyed sampling all the event nutrition:
Hammer Raspberry Jells : Yuck! I just don't see to like any of their stuff other than Apple Cinnamon.
Clif Shot blocks: Like the new packaging. Compact and much easier to eat while riding. Gonna carry some of these during the race.
Clif Builder bar: Saved this for post run, but it was good.
Cookies/Pretzels: Yum. Who can pass up these up.
All in all in was a great IMAZ prep ride for me. I used 4 20-oz water bottles. 3 were 2x Inifinit which gave me 6 hrs of planned nurition. 4th was strictly water that I refilled at the stops. Planning on this same set up for the race next month.
