![]() | ![]() That's a good look for you Dirk. It's hard for any cosmetic surgery to not be an improvement though! Tracy, great job running a local race. I get wanting to keep it small. My favorite sprint races are the smaller local ones. |

My friend Wynn will be doing the aqua/bike and his wife will be doing the half. I didn't realize you and Jonathan will be doing it, very cool. You're right lot's of races going on 9/8 the Junkies are going to be well represented nationally that day! Way cool. If we can say hi, somehow get their bib numbers or something to us. By the way, the long range forecast is showing a cooling trend at IMWI already! I'm sure you're not checking the weather every half hour yet! Wed Sep 4 Cloudy 78°/54° Cloudy Chance of rain: 20% Wind: SW at 8 mph Warren will do and I will let them know you guys are racing that day as well. And yeah I'm guilty of checking the weather in Madison on a daily basis. I'm sure the closer I get to the race it will more like on an hourly basis lol. I'm just hoping for a nice day. |

The past few years, I've gotten Road ID to sponsor it. It's been fun! The running club wanted me to take over as director of the Humboldt/Redwoods Marathon. Ummmmm.......no. Too big and I just can't take responsibility for that many people. I'd have a heart attack worrying about everyone! The thought is flattering, though. |

Not quite hourly, but multiple times throughout the day. I also remember doing the same for Rev3 CP but not nearly as much as Boston. I had a little more of a inclination to check the weather for Rev3 because the day before the race there were riptide warnings in Lake Erie and 20-25 MPH winds with gusts up to 40 MPH AND they cancelled the sprint race and kids triathlon that Lis and I were scheduled to volunteer at. Things always seem to work out.........Well, almost Tony. I'm mean what could happen? A huge thunderstorm roll through when you're on the run or something? I mean c'mon, like that would ever happen. |

Running a marathon would seem to be a beast of it's own. It would be a much, much longer day and all the extra people/volunteers that would be required for aid stations, etc. No thanks! |

I would have to agree with you I'd be very nervous about being responsible for that many people's safety. God bless all those RD's who do these events. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did up a little RR for my 10k Turns out I didn't Neg split, but it was close, and it had a little more to do with the vertical change on the out and back. While warming up for the event I went out and did a 7-8 minute light job before some stretching ect. and just as I was finishing I had a really bad muscle spasm in my back that wrapped around the right side of my chest. Came out of no where and totally took my breath away. It relaxed a bit but I could still feel it in my back. I had a massage after the race and the girl doing it tried to work out a knot but its still there. I haven't had any more spasms, but I still have a knot in my back and when I turn my chest or sit a certain way I can feel it around the right side of my ribs right to the front. Any ideas what this could be? I feels like the knot in the muscle isn't at the surface but is more inside, under the ribs. It been two days and its till there, it seems to be getting a little better, but not much. OK docs give me your best diagnosis. Is it a muscle problem, nerve problem, muscle pinching a nerve, small alien taken up residence in my rib cage? I'm trying to get a hold of my massage therapist to get in today or tomorrow. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=499160 Edited by BigDaddyD79 2013-08-27 9:21 AM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Warren, great result this weekend, and way to push through the swim. Tony, sounds like your ready for your IM, you'll do great, just remember your training, and smile! Dirk, its a good look, and I'm sure it will give you an extra 1-2 watts on the bike. That and the extra protein you can take in from not straining out the bugs with your teeth. Edited by BigDaddyD79 2013-08-27 8:22 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BidDaddy, I'm no expert but it may take several massages to get the muscle to relax, good luck. I also take a muscle relaxer and that seems to help too, but it kills your workouts. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've noticed lately that I've slowed down in the pool... not a ton, but probably like 2 seconds per 100 slower. I've lost 30 lbs since the first of the year... could that be a reason? Or maybe I've just gotten lazy... or maybe all the other WO's are taking their toll on me... thoughts? |

For me, it is a rib that gets slightly displaced. A great massage therapist is able to get in there and allow the muscles to relax enough to put it back in place. It hurts to get it done but the relief is almost instantaneous. He sticks me in the chair to get at the spot. I also have some exercises that help me at home if it's feeling a bit off. My daily yoga is also beneficial. Don't mess around with it, though. If massage doesn't help, get to your doctor as quickly as possible. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Last Wednesday I took a day off of work (after doing my morning workouts of course!) and went to a state park nearby. The pool at the base of the falls made a top ten list of the best swimming holes in America. You have to hike there. Not too far, but the hike includes about a 1/4 mile hike upstream (actually in the water) since there is no direct route to the bottom of the falls. It's pretty fun! I'm going to try attaching some photos. Will it has nothing to do with laziness LOL, geez man I've seen your training logs. It probably has to do with the volume of training you've been doing. I've noticed the same thing across disciplines. Some days I have it and some days I don't. It's all good though you build fitness when your fatigued. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jeff that looks like a pretty awesome spot to go swimming. I'm sure it was well worth taking the day off and taking the hike there to see it. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I did some multitasking on my run today. (Run, strength train on hills, foraging for food) I pushed the munchkin in the stroller, uphill, to a blackberry picking spot. We picked and ate berries for awhile before walking home. I'm going to bake a couple pies now! |

I had a similar incident with ribs just this past Thursday though the location of the pain/soreness was a little different. I went out on a run that afternoon and afterword I never felt like I could get a full deep breath in. There was this soreness right across the sternum. It even kept me out of my full Kung Fu workout in class that night. I went in to see my chiropractor the next morning and he said 2 ribs were out of alignment. 2 minutes worth of adjustment and my breathing was easier. Some soreness still lasted through the day, but it was much improved the next morning and by the time I got on my bike for a Saturday ride there were no lingering effects at all. |
