Run
Comments: Felt good until mile 22. Was hanging with the 4:20 pacers, but at 22 just couldn't hold the pace anymore. What would you do differently?: Long run before. David and I did a 13.1 training run in FL in March, but 11 was the longest I went after that. Post race
Warm down: Long finisher's chute. David was in Lambeau as I made that loop and was in the bleachers at the finish line. He followed me down the chute popping out between the busses as I hobbled out. Just had to keep walking. Had a chocolate milk in the chute, got a brat and a lite beer and walked around while eating those. Watched the award ceremony, then walked back to the hotel. Even though it was almost 80 degrees, I kept the mylar wrap on--felt chilled. Took a hot shower, briefly put the water to cold on my legs, but needed to warm up my body. Got packed up and had to get back to town as all the boys were coming to us. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of long run. I also had been feeling really run down the month or so before the race--to the point I emailed my doctor and had lab work done. It was all OK, but I started taking a multivitamin and was more consistent w my iron (Ferritin still on the low end) and that seemed to help. Event comments: This is one of my favorite races ( I do it almost every year) as it is so flat. I was 5 min slower than the Madison Marathon this past fall (11/8/15) and that was a super hilly course, so I wonder if the lack of hills is actually a detriment as the same muscles get used the entire time. I did take 11 minutes off of last year's time, though. We had perfect weather--55 at start and 70s by finish, mild humidity. I would have liked more stations to hand out ice--they had it in coolers at almost all but only a few had it ready in cups to hand out (don't want to have to stop and wait). At mile 24 there was this awesome lady who had set up a table and had Ibuprofen, root beer, diet coke, chocolate, water, and who knows what else. The root beer was exactly what I needed to get through the last 2 miles as I didn't want another Gu--thank you nice lady! Last updated: 2016-05-28 12:00 AM

Arrived w David on Saturday around 5, went straight to the Expo. David's first race--he's doing the half. Got our race packet then walked around the expo a little, had our photo taken--signs this year. Got a text from Dave that he, brother Jeff, Dennis, and Sue were at Stadium View. We met them and ordered dinner. I got a hamburger with a side salad, had 1 Bud light. David had a burger and fries, lemonade. Janel arrived, was there to watch Marissa run her first marathon but was staying with us. Checked into the hotel (Best Western, of course), soaked in the hot tub a bit. Got to bed around 9:30-10:00. David and I had a bed, Janel the other, adjoining room Dave and Sue got beds and Dennis took the cot.
Woke up around 5:30, ate my usual 2 granola bars (almond flax) w peanut butter. Had a Yoplait yogurt and a banana. Bathroom luck. Left around 6:30 to head for the start line. David came along to cheer me on--I was in coral C--he didn't start till 8:00. Pretty uneventful, waves spread out nicely so no issues with getting sandwiched in. Took off faster that I would have liked, but felt pretty good
