Comments: RD should have never put us in the water - he pulled everyone out 15 minutes after starting the first wave. There were storms in the area and I guess he was gambling they wouldn't get close enough but lightning strikes were reported 2 miles and less from the race start so he finally called the race. The emergency crews (water rescue and ambulance) said they would've never let people in the water. Apparently they had 2 other squads on call in case lightning did strike the lake. I was in the second wave (3 of 4 got started) and swam for about 10 minutes or so before I noticed swimmers ahead of me stopped, then turning around and yelling to go back to shore ASAP. There was supposed to be sirens sounded but I never heard them. At one point a rescue boat went past and the crew were blowing whistles. I swam for 22:41 minutes total, hitting stop on my watch when I crossed the mats at the top of the boat ramp. I was disappointed for sure because I had put a lot of extra time, effort, and money getting extra help/coaching/training for this swim in the hope of beating a personal time goal. I felt strong and felt like I could've accomplished this goal; now I guess I'll have to wait until next year to make it happen. Post race

Arrived just before 7 am, having left the house around 5 in order to secure a spot in the parking lot at the race start and not needing to use the shuttle. Picked up our caps, chips, and swag, then sat in the car for a bit after looking at the course.
I didn't do a warm-up but I was supposed to. I was nervous about the uncertainty of if the race was going to be held or called given the fact the clouds were darkening.
