Well I finally knocked out my first 1000m swim; and felt great doing it.  Think I could have completed another 200m.  Did it in 24min; which I don't think is too great a time; I was just tickled to finish it off.  Was getting pretty stuck on week 4 of the 0-1650 program.

24 mins is not bad compared to a lot of people on here! Congrats!

Congrats! Good feeling, isn't it. Might be slow now, but do you have any relatively recent memories of taking 1 hour to swim 1000 yards. Just looked back to when I started recording my workouts in February...Feb. 17, 2008, 500 yards-31 minutes. This was doing my maximum length of 25 yards at a time and stopping at each side to gasp and pant. Didn't start to see any improvement until late May, with July being my breakthrough month. Just did a sprint tri this AM, .75 mile OWS lake swim. Took me about 23 minutes, and I was around 78 out of 87 out of the water, but I did it, and I'm determined to improve my speed over the cold months. I want to be a force to be reckoned with for the swims come 2009

I know better than to be too concerned with the time; just wanted some feedback.  Of course as Murphy would have it, I had to go out of town and will be unable to get in any swim training for about a week; psychologically it was a nice hurlde to overcome, the 600m felt like a wall for a couple of weeks.  I did knock 24 sec off my 600m.

Congrats on the distance.  My swim times are at your pace or slower and no where near what many here are doing.  I figure though as long as I can finish the event or schedule distance I'm happy.   Keep it up and you'll hit that 1650 in no time!   I did the 0-1650 last month and ended up just doing the 1650 (and was actually in meters as I didn't know the health club was a 25 meter pool) about mid program length one day when I felt good.   It wasn't fast but I just kept going along at my comfort pace.   If I can have that much success in my upcoming tri's I'll be overjoyed.  Don't care if I'm DFL out of the water as long as I enjoy it.

You can always try finding a local heath club while out of town and get a 3 day pass or some such guest access.  I've always enjoyed those as they are a change of pace in the pool training to swim and workout someplace different.

Check out this website.  You might find a pool where you are going.

Great job!!!  Pretty soon you'll be doing 1600m or more in the same amount of time.
