My guess is that you will enjoy the experience of clipping on a race belt over attaching safety pins to a wet swimsuit.  You can find race belts at local running stores or online at triathlon/run shops.  Shouldn't cost you more than $10 or so.

Ditto. Mine cost me $8. Well worth the investment.

Some of them have little elastic bands to hold gels, which is a nice bonus if you're into that sort of thing.

How about a race belt for $ 0 ? I have an extra one now...... found my old one.

PM me and I'll send it out to you...... on one condition tho:

you have to actually USE IT !.... for my first and only tri I laid everything out neatly and in nice order in the transition area..... and in my transition stupor did not put it on....lol.

I have a belt off my hiking pants which I removed - web with a plastic catch/buckle.  I pin my race number to it before hand.  Works just like a race belt - I have used it many times.  So you might already even own something which can double as a belt.  Or in a pinch, one can buy these hiking strap kind of things in the camping department at Walmart.

Yes, race belt is the way to go.  I bought one for about $8 and it was too big (do they come in sizes?) so I gave it to my husband.  I made one from some black elastic and belt clip/buckle (total cost about $2.50 from walmart) and it looks just as good as the one I bought.

Another option, in a pinch, is to pin the number on a shirt and just put the shirt on before you start your run.  The races I have done only require to wear the number on the run and not the ride, but check the rules for your race.

I'd go with the belt or pin it to your shorts before the races starts and just put them on. Some races only require it for the bike portion too.
