Subject: dog/house sitter in Victoria?
I am desperately searching for a dog-sitter, someone who can move into my house and take care of my big old dog while I am away ... I have a trip planned for January, but am having a really hard time finding someone. Every lead I get comes back with a "no" ... so even though my trip is still 4 months away, I'm starting to freak out! I really don't want to cancel my trip, but if I don't line up a sitter before the cancellation/refund deadline (it's a conference) I just might have to back out.

Anyone know anyone trustworthy and dependable, good with big dogs, who would be willing to come stay in my house for a week? I also have a cat, but she requires very little care. Food twice a day and legs to sleep on at night just about covers the cat.
I pay - I can't pay much, but I do pay.

I also take a few trips a year, 3-4 if I'm having a good year, so I'd like to have a regular sitter ... the past few trips I have had to fly my mother out from Manitoba.

PM me if you know of anyone - thanks!

I would do it but then you said "trustworthy and dependable" so I'm out. If oyu want I can take your trips for you and you would then be able to tend to the pets and your garden! Problem solved! Let me know the details of when I take off!

Hope you can get something worked out, have you tried those dog walking services? Some come into your house and look after the animals at your place...

Oh no ... I would not set you loose at a yoga conference in San Francisco ... nuh uh.

Well Hazzie the problem is that I can't FIND any service that will do it ... I've been looking for 2 years, and the people I have contacted that are trustworthy and dependable (ha!) are booked up already. Seriously. They already have booking for summer 2009!

I'm smelling yet another market I can corner ... whee hee! I am business-woman hear me roar!

You had me at yoga and LULU Lemon...I just picked myself up off the ground...

Tried any kennels? Some of them are getting pretty posh, and I would think that anything on the Island would be pretty caring and trustworthy and all that other stuff you were looking for!

I will be going Jan 15-23 ... the dog is good with small children we meet on the street and when my nieces come over (irregularly) but we've never really had any regular interaction with kids in the house consistently. He does have some aggression issues with other dogs.

My house isn't set up for kids at all - too much stuff/clutter and not enough room.

We just recently found the best person on the planet to care for young Angus while we're away.  It's in Surrey/Richmond, but maybe she can refer you to someone similar on the island.

The owner of Playful Paws daycare in Richmond (www.playfulpaws.net), a wonderful woman named Larna, does home boarding where she takes all types of dogs (up to five at a time, apparently) home with her every day.  She takes them to daycare during the day and then home to stay with her in the evenings.

Maybe try contacting her to see if she knows of anyone similar in Victoria.   It's worth a shot.

After what was possibly the most frustrating search for anything in my life - I FOUND A DOGSITTER! I found her on usedvictoria.com - but she's actually clean, pleasant, reliable, and experienced! And the dog loves her! Too good to be true ...

I guess you CAN buy everything on the internet.
