I don't normally post here but I find that I need some help.

Next June, McFuzz and I are planning a trip to Hawaii.  In order to get ready I needed to set some goals.  I want to lose weight and be in good enough shape to hike the volcanoes and snorkel and swim in the ocean.  In order to achieve the hiking portion of my trip I knew that I needed a goal to continue running.  I have imported a beginner 10K running training plan with a pre-training plan starting in August.

Now I need your help.  Do you know of any races, any distance, in Hawaii during the month of June that I can sign up for?

Sounds like a fun trip.  As for races, check out www.trifind.com.

I tried that but there aren't any races listed for June 2010, as of yet.  I was hoping for races that were run this year and know they will be next year.

Are you looking for runs or triathlons?  I tried the race database here on BT but came up with three triathlons.  I would suggest active.com, or asking this question on the Hawaii forum.

Try active.com- they let you search past races and then you can go to the organizers website to make sure it will be going on again next year.

Which island are you visiting?  Hawaii 70.3 (Honu) is on the Big Island on June 5.  Usually, there's a sprint on the North Shore of Oahu the following weekend.

I'm looking for a running race so that I don't have to take a bike.  Right now, I'm focusing on running and less (not at all) on tris.  I tentatively have Hibiscus Half Mary on the Race List.

Heck, you can hike Volcano National Park on a 10 beer training plan!  I did!  The hikes really aren't that hard.  I was way out of shape and overweight and we spent a day and a half hiking around the volcano.

But...you could always make your own race.  Run up Chain of Craters road.  9 miles or so.  You make it...you win!  According to the map only a slight elevation increase of 3980 feet over 9 miles.

My personal advice...its Hawaii...RELAX!  Find a race the week before you go!  I wouldn't waste 1 minute of the time you have in Hawaii worrying about a race unless you were going there specifically for the race.  We spent 14 nights on the islands (Maui, BI, Kuaui) and it wasn't nearly enough to time to see what we wanted!

Kona Marathon is held toward the end of the month, they also have 5K, 10K, Half on the plate. Held on the same course as the IM World Championships

Usually Peaman does biathlons at the Kona pier and I am pretty sure one is done around Father's day, but their online presence is spotty.

Feel free to PM with any questions.
